chapter 10
murphy's law
september 23rd, 2149
accusationsAVA WAS NOT A STRANGER to death. She had seen it first-hand during her short period on earth. She had also been a witness to many people's departures through her time on the Ark. One of the massive consequences of working in a medical profession was that you couldn't always help everyone. Though Ava wasn't a proper doctor, she did tend to many ill patients who would, unfortunately, pass away and all Ava could do was watch.
Regrettably, Ava's mother was one of those unfortunate ones.
So, yes, Ava was familiar with death, but she was still as affected by the premiss as those who weren't accustomed to life's cruel certainties.
Four days ago, Wells Jaha was murdered just outside the camp's walls. Everyone was under the impression that the grounders had killed him, which was a reasonable assumption considering the violent nature they had presented.
Although Ava was saddened by the news regarding Wells and felt regretful that she hadn't got to know him better, she wasn't severely upset as she didn't actually know him. She had spoken to him a few times and when they were on Operation Retrieve Jasper Jordan, they had shared a few remarks but that was about it. As insensitive as it may sound, she was more worried about the remaining camp members safety than anything.
