twilight's last gleaming

complicationsRUN. RUN. RUN. RUN. RUN.
Fifteen-year-old Ava zoomed down one of the Ark's many dull corridors, taking as many turns as she could, trying to lose the plethora of guards chasing her. She had just been caught exploring the council chambers – a lot more boring than she thought they would be – on her way back from rummaging through old storage closets.
She was also late, very late. A movie night with her two best friends requested her presence and she had done her best to arrive on time, but alas, this was Ava, therefore she was more than behind time
Skidding around one last corner, Ava pressed her back against a crevice of a wall and held her breath. A few seconds later, five guards jogged straight past her thinking she had carried on running.
Puffing her cheeks out, she relaxed against the wall. She took a couple minutes to catch her breath before walking down a corridor that led to the left and away from the guards that had chased her.
She walked for about ten minutes before she rounded a familiar corner. Grinning at the fact she had finally reached her destination – about forty minutes later than promised – Ava knocked excitedly on the door.
