o NO ONE's surprise, Grace was the most dramatic and pained about leaving. She packed her bags solemnly and walked about the house like a zombie. She refused to eat and do what she was told. She cursed her parents and their decision to her friends, and in front of everyone. She kicked Cortez in the face, and although it was an accident she didnt seem to care about consoling him or saying sorry to her mother for the way she treated their dog. Grace had so many bags that they had to send another cab to take us seperately. I was more than eager about this, and I still don't know how Rocky feels. He's been quite secretive and quiet lately. I'm beginning to wonder if he really meant what he said to me at the beach that day.

My prayers were seemingly answered when I found out that me and Rocky would be riding together in the same car. "yes!" I thought to myself. "he gets to be stuck with me for hours and I didnt have to do anything!!" We packed our things in the car and waved the Summer's family goodbye. Grace loaded her things into the trunk of her personal taxi and then hopped in. Once we were on the road behind Grace's driver for a while, Rocky asked,

''how long will it take to get there?"

The driver looked at him in the mirror and then said,

''Three hours; four at most,''

Rocky sighed and then threw his head back against the seat.

''whats wrong? You can't stand me that long?" I asked, smiling.

He smiled,

"no, i cant" he said.

I laughed. I turned around in my seat to face him,

''so...if you don't mind me asking...how many girlfriends have you had?''

He sighed. He then ran his hand over his forehead over and over. And then he crossed his hands and said,

''thats a good question. I--I wouldnt know.''

''so, you just like get one after the other?" I asked.

''your making me sound like a man hoe, but yea.''

I laughed. ''you are a man hoe.'' I said. ''If you don't mind me speaking my mind.''

He nodded,

''thats something you do quite often, eh?"

I nodded.

''how about you? How many boyfriends have you ever had?" he asked.

My face quickly changed. I shot a glance at him and noticed he was staring. Eagerly awaiting an answer. I bit my lip,

''uhmm....to be honest with you, Rocky, I have never had a boyfriend.''

He sucked his bottom lip,

''thats what I figured,'' he said looking out the window. I turned back around in my seat, embarrased. Tucked my hands to my sides, and stared out the window. After a while Rocky said,

''don't be embarrased about it. I wish I never had a girlfriend...well....I wish I had a clean slate.''

''thanks,'' I said smiling without passion. ''really.''

I slumped down in my seat, curled up, and closed my eyes.

The arrival took a shorter time than I expected; probably because I fell alseep. The area was rural and the outside looked too hot for even the carcasses of the desert. Our stop was at a beautiful big house. I smiled and climbed out. Two old people (whom I assumed were my grandparents) along with a boy and girl greeted us. My filthy rich grandparents smiled. Both boy and girl didnt budge nor crack a line in their perfect faces.

''Ohhh my!" the grandma said coming towards me. She walked a bit pass me and came up to Grace. She put her hands on Graces cheeks and grinned. Staring her in the eyes intently, she said,

''well hi baby doll! I'm grammy,''

Grace stared into my grandmothers eyes and didnt say a word. A weird unexpected feeling of jealously and anger came over me. Grace? Really?....After a while Rocky said,

''Hi, i'm Rocky. That is my sister Grace,'' he said.

The grandpa looked at Rocky and then at me.

''Lily!'' he exclaimed. He ran over to his wife and grabbed her arms. He spun her around gently and then said,

''that is Dan's girl!"

The grammy chuckled.

''well, arent I a bunt head!" she said chuckling even more. She flew her hands in the air and then said,

''well, c'mon and give your grandma a hug!"

I walked up to her bashfully and extended my arms. She fell into them and we rocked back and forth. She grabbed my hand and started to carry me off with her. Rocky, Grace, the other kids, and grandpa followed after us. We soon made it into the house while the taxi drivers carried our luggage. When they set it all down at the door grandpa pulled out his wallet and paid them. The kids stood by the door and just looked at us all blank faced.

Grandpa gestured for them to come closer but they refused. He sighed as if giving up and then said,
