"Alright, Karasuno, first round BYE. You get to ref the other games going on, keep score, and retrieve balls. Get going." Coach sent us on our way. Daichi and I did score for the Nekoma and Fukorodani game. Tsukki, Asahi, and Noya were reffing the game.
I honestly zoned out a majority of the first set. Daichi had to signal me to change the scoreboard quite a few times. The only thing keeping my attention was Kuroo and Bokuto taking shots at each other and bickering. It's quite entertaining.
"Suga, you don't usually zone out like this, you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm good." I replied as the whistle blew.
"Your point." Daichi said.
"Oh…" I quickly turned the scoreboard another point.
"You can talk to me, ya know." He said.
No you can't.
"Y-yeah...I know. But honestly, I'm fine."
"If you say so. " He said. I tried to pay attention for the rest of the set. It wasn't easy, but I got through it.
For the second set, I was line ref. Hopefully I don't zone out here, people would get mad.
In the end, Nekoma won two sets in a row, making a third set unnecessary, and sending Fukurodani to do flying leaps around the gym, and also pissing off Bokuto. Daichi wrote the scores up on the board for them.
"So, what now?" I asked.
"We wait for the other game. They're on the third set though, so it shouldn't be too much longer." He replied.
"Alright. Any idea who we're up against?"
"Fukurodani."
"Nice, we get to go against Bokoto and Akaashi."
"Yep, go grab some water and get your head in the game man, you're the starting setter for this first game." He gave me a slap on the back before going to talk with Kuroo about God knows what.
I grabbed my bottle and went to sit outside the gym. To be honest, I was nervous. Nervous to the point I felt sick. I shouldn't be, I'm a goddamn third year who started every single game last year.
I sunk my head down and tried to calm down, I didn't wanna end up puking unintentionally and getting everyone worried.
Asahi came out and sat down beside me after a bit.
"God, Shinzen and Ubugawa are taking forever."
"What's the score?" I asked.
"12 to 13, Shinzen is ahead and serving."
"Well, it's the third set, so they'll be done soon."
"Yeah, but their rallies man, they're good."
"Don't remind me." I forced a laugh.
"Boys," Coach came outside, "Get your asses in here, the sets almost over."
"Be right in, Coach." Asahi said. He stood up and then extended a hand to help me up off the ground.
"Let's do this." I said. I tried to shove all anxiety away and replace it with a competitive mindset.
By the time we were in there, Ubugawa was already doing their punishment laps. Our team got set up on the line across from Fukurodani, in the other court was Nekoma and Ubugawa. Shinzen was reffing.
In our front line it was Tsukki, Me, and Hinata. Our back line was Asahi, Daichi, and Noya. Asahi had the first serve.
I got Into my usual position, legs bent just a little bit and hands out ready to move. I was trying not to put too much pressure on either leg though.
