ALWAYS & FOREVER

CHAPTER 14

She comes and stands beside me and I take a second to appreciate her appearance. Her dark hair stand out against the white color of her dress. Mom comes and hugs Meera then me. 

"You both are looking so good together", Ma says and I smile awkwardly at her. Only if she knew.

Author's POV

Abhimanyu and Meera greet everyone pretending to be perfectly happy. 

Reyansh is with Alia. Abhi goes up to them and he immediately jumps into his arms. 

They all go and sit on dining table. Abhi is sitting on the head of the table with Meera on one side and Sameer on the other. Aditya is sitting beside Meera with Reyansh on his lap , Nandini is sitting next to Sameer and Alia is sitting next to Adi. 

The servants bring the food out . Abhimanyu tries to keep up with the conversation but eventually he zones out. He tries to remember what Adi and Meera were talking about he can't seem to remember. Reyansh is constantly looking back and forth between the two of them.  Nandini notices that Abhi is looking is distant. She catchers his eyes from across the table and asks him what's wrong through gestures. Abhi shakes his head in response and turns his attention back to his food.

Everyone is  busy eating when suddenly Adi yells and Rey lets out a cry. Everyone's attention turns to them. Abhi looks up to see that Nandini has her hands on her mouth staring the scene with her mouth agape . Hot curry is spilt all over Adi . Reyansh was in his lap. Abhimanyu's face pales at this realization. He looks around quickly to find Meera holding him awkwardly. 

Apparently the bowl was kept on the edge and it tipped over. The entire thing would have fallen over Reyansh if Meera hadn't pulled him out in time. 

He rushes and takes Reyansh from Meera, holding him carefully so that he doesn't hurt his hand more. Abhi slowly lifts it up to examine it. It's red and hurting him a lot, Reyansh is crying non stop. Nandini brings an ice back and slowly puts it on his hand. Reyansh starts crying harder at the contact. Abhimanyu try my best to pacify and distract him but he's still sobbing. 

Alias bring the first aid kit. She opens it while Meera dabs his hand with a wet towel , then dries it. Alia passes her a tube of ointment . She looks at it and shakes his head. 

"No, this is too strong from for him", Meera says and rummages through the box and pulls another tube out. She slowly takes a little of it in her finger and gently dabs it on his hand. Surprisingly, Reyansh lets her do it without protesting. His crying also reduces as he watches Meera slowly wrapping his hand in a gauze.

After she's done, she lifts his hand and examines it once more. Once she's satisfied, Meera leaves his hand and turns around and goes to where the the first aid kit is kept . When she turns around, Reyansh grabs on to the end of her dupatta and holds it tightly. 

Meera feels someone tugging on her dupatta. She turns around notices Reyansh holding it. She walks over to him and slowly tries to tug it out of his grip. As she does this, Rey looks at her with wide eyes. Meera finally removes it from his grip and bops his nose. Reyansh lets out a giggle and turns to bury his face against Abhi's chest. 

Meera then urns her attention to Adi. He is not severely burned but she still puts a little ointment on his hand. 

"Thank god she is a doctor", Adi says to Abhi as she goes to stand beside him. Abhi looks at Adi and nods as if he already knew this . 

 "Is he fine", Nandini  asks Meera referring to Reyansh,

"Yes, it was a minor burn, it should heal in a couple of days". 

"I have to go to a friends house now, I've got a big test tomorrow and I have to prepare for it. Can you drop me Adi", Alia says.

"why always me, ask the driver", Adi whines.

"I would if the driver was actually here"

"I don't care go on your own"

"I'll drop you " Meera offers.

"Ok, I'll go get my things", Alia says and goes to collect her bag.

Meera returns a moment later with her mobile and car keys.

"Lets go", Alia jumps and drags Meera outside. Abhimanyu stands there with Reyansh who is almost asleep in his arms while he watches Meera and head out.
