Chapter 1: Bargaining

Start from the beginning

I pushed open the glass door of the bar and walked inside.

Mr. Valentine said he would be at the bar, so that's where I headed first.

When I spotted his head that's filled with black and silver strands of hair I immediately walked up to him.

"Mr. Valentine" I smile as I took a seat beside him.

"Killian my boy, how's the family?" he asks as he signals for the bartender to come over.

"They're quite alright, thank you" I say as I ordered a drink. "How's your daughter?".

"My daughter.. well, her teacher quit today" he says as his bushy eyebrows furrowed.

"I'm sure her school will find a replacement quickly" I say in a reassuring manner.

"She's homeschooled actually".

"Oh, well why did the teacher quit?" I asked curiously.

"This isn't the first time her teacher has quit, she's had at least 5 teachers this year. They always complain about how she doesn't understand math"

"Is she stupid or something?" I think to myself without showing reaction.

"I'm sure you'll find a good fit for her" I say instead.

"You use to teach college right?" he asks after taking a sip of his drink.

"I did, I've always been quite the scholar".

"Well, why don't you homeschool my daughter? Maybe what she needs is a strict teacher." he says as I almost choke on my drink.

"Well sir- I haven't taught anyone in a while" I say trying to hint that I don't want to spend 7 hours a day with a spoiled brat.

"That doesn't make you any less qualified to be a teacher, you even have experience" he says trying to convince me. "Plus she's in her last year so you'll only have to teach her for the rest of this year".

I wanted to just straight up tell him no. Besides, I'll probably be to tough on his daughter and honestly I don't see what I would get out of this.

Actually..

"If I do teach your daughter could I have 55% of the profit from our partnership" I said and he pauses to think about it.

"Fine, but only because I trust very few people with my daughter. But you my boy, you're like family. I would trust you with the life of my daughter" he says and pats me on the back.

I let out an awkward chuckle. To be honest I was expecting him to say no..

I wasn't happy about this, but why say no to extra money? Also, upsetting Mr. Valentine isn't something I exactly aim to do.

"What's the weekly pay?" I ask curiously.

"About 1,300 dollars" he says in response and I nod.

"Not bad I guess" I mumbled before taking the last sip of my drink.

Mr.Valentine stands up and grabs his jacket off the back of his chair "I'm going to head back home".

"Later" I say waving him goodbye before standing up myself.

I send a text to my driver, letting him know I'm ready to be picked up.

Once I do, I find Olivia's contact and call her. Once she answers, I put the phone up to my ear.

"So, did you talk about it?" she asks.

"We did actually. He's agreed to give me 55%" I answered her question.

"How the hell did you manage that?"

"Well, I kinda agreed to homeschool his kid" I say.

She laughs "Back to your teaching days huh?"

"For the rest of the year yeah"

"mm, so does that mean you'll be at work less?" she asks.

"Well yes, but I could always do the important stuff at home. I prefer working at night anyways" I say as I notice my driver pulling into the parking lot.

"You shouldn't overwork yourself Killian" She says as I slid into the backseat of my limo.

"I can do whatever the hell I want" I say.

I hear her sigh into the speaker "You'll never get rid of your attitude will you?"

"You go ahead home for the night" I say, ignoring her question.

I hung up the phone and sat back in my seat, as my driver drove me home.
