Destinies Collide, Part 8/8

Start from the beginning

Everything they have been through, the journey they've made together... it has all led to this.

Rapunzel's hair begins to glow again. It stands straight up above her head, rubbing against the black rocks. Every rock in the room illuminates bright blue, and they point directly at the Moon Stone.

"As if we didn't know where it is..." Varian remarks with a small chuckle, though the blinding sight before them fills him with astonishment.

Suddenly, the black rocks seem to almost combine with each other. Their illumination stops, and the room is entirely dark... except for the magical gleam of the opal, and Rapunzel's hair.

As Rapunzel steps forward, she sees that the bridge between them and the Moon Stone is broken. But this doesn't deter her. She steps forward with faith into the open air of the pit, but instead of falling a path of glowing rocks begins to form underneath her. With each step she takes, the path only grows.

The other three nod at each other, and follow after the princess. Varian's anticipation intensifies, but he also feels a strong uneasiness. As if something horrible is about to happen. And there is also a third feeling, one that he can't explain...

The four of them stop just beyond the Moon Stone. They gaze upon it, and Rapunzel turns to look at her friends excitedly. She sees Cassandra standing back, and approaches her.

"Look, I know these last few months haven't been easy for us," Rapunzel says, taking Cassandra's hands in hers. "I wanna thank you for everything." She gives Cassandra a tight embrace, as Eugene and Varian watch on.

"Okay Rapunzel. It's time," Cassandra replies seriously, not hugging Rapunzel back.

Rapunzel releases her, still smiling uncontrollably. She walks to Varian, and squeezes him just as tightly. "I wanna thank you too, Varian. Things were a bit... rocky between us at the start of this journey. But we've come so far! And I don't just mean the physical distance. I can't imagine having done it without you. I'm so happy you came with us."

"I am too," Varian replies, returning her embrace. "I don't know where I would be right now if you hadn't saved me from myself."
