"I gave you Chanon's belongings because I wanted you to practice your power. But I told you not to exert yourself."

Aria listened to Mr Pom as he talked with Namtarm. She stayed not too far, yet not too near either, from the infirmary where Namtarn was brought after she fainted.

She was worried about her friend that she wanted to hear for herself that Namtarn was fine. That was why she decided to sneak up and listen to them.

Her earphones were absent from her ears. It was nighttime anyway; there was less noise, and she could bear it.

"I found P'Chanon's resignation form." As if she didn't hear what Mr Pom said, Namtarn stretched her hand and handed him a paper.

"So?" asked Mr Pom.

"I just can't believe someone with that kind of passion will give up so easily."

The teacher massaged his temples with his fingers. "But I remember. I remember on the last day Chanon took me to a warehouse to consult with me. He just couldn't go any longer. I remember..." Their teacher trailed off that knitted Aria's brows.

"What's wrong?" Namtarn asked.

"I shouldn't have told you about this." His words made her even more curious and confused.

She then heard the door opening. It was Namtarn's mom.

"Namtarn, why did you end up here?" the woman asked.

"Mom, I just passed out," she replied as if it was not a big of a deal.

"Why did you do this? Why didn't you listen to me? How many times have I told you what the most important thing in life is? No matter how talented a person is, if she fails to keep on living, everything else is useless!"

"Mom, when your time comes, you die. Look at Dad. He's very healthy but he got into an unexpected accident."

Namtarn's words made Aria feel sorry. She leaned on the wall behind her and kept on listening.

"Don't talk back to me. I'm worried about you, can't you see?"

The girl kept her mouth shut for a moment. She pushed her glasses up and remained looking down. "I know you are. That's why you put me in a cage. You don't let me do anything. Are you going to treat me like a sick kid and keep me with you forever?"

"Namtarn!"

Even Mr Pom had to call her as a warning. "I agree with your mother this time. You pushed yourself too hard."

"Mr Pom—!"

Aria felt like she shouldn't be listening to that conversation. It was too personal. But she couldn't bring herself to go back to their dorm yet.

"I'd like you to take a break from the Gifted class for one week to get yourself better. Is that okay? Is that okay with you?"

It made Aria look in the direction where they were with slightly wide eyes. But what shocked her, even more, were her mum's words.

"No. I'm not so sure if I want her to continue to study here."

As Namtarn turned her head to her mother, Aria's eyes widened.

"Mum!" Namtarn tried to protest.

But her mother stopped her. "Not another word. Take a rest. We can talk more tomorrow."
