An experiment. That's what you were. That's what your best friend was as well. The two of you had been raised in the same testing facility — his room right next to yours — and he was the only person you were permitted to see outside of experiments. You weren't sure how old you were when you were gifted to these scientists but, you knew you hated them and your parents for giving you away.

Basil was the same way — full of hatred for the scientists and his parents. That hatred is what got the two of you out of that facility and out of the country. While the many experiments they did on him made him part fox — it turns out the ones they did on you gave you the ability to teleport the two of you and communicate telepathically. That's how you planned the escape, telepathically.

The two of you had landed in Romania based off of the writing you had seen in one of the towns. You two weren't sure where you were headed nor did either of you care. As long as you two had each other, you were both fine.

His ears perked up suddenly and his hand gripped yours, catching your attention immediately. "I smell wolves."

"Wolves?" You repeated, a howl piercing the air shortly after.

The two of you shared a look of disgust, frowns etched into your features. "Wolves."

You two took to the trees, leaping from branch to branch with ease before you spotted a village and stopped, making him return to your side. Something was drawing you to the village — something powerful — and it unsettled you greatly. Basil sniffed the air and bared his fangs, placing a hand on your shoulder.

"Wolves. Scent strong. Let's leave." He muttered, eyes narrowed at the village.

"Something..." You trailed off, shaking your head before nodding to him. "Let's go."

The two of you set off again, neither of you noticing how you had both begun to enter the village until it was too late. A giant wolf-like creature landed in front of the both of you, letting out a howl that shook the ground. Basil shakily grabbed your hand and took off running, his ears pressed down in fear.

"Dangerous. Need to leave." He muttered, waiting for you to take the hint.

"I'll get us out of here." You spoke to him telepathically, your body starting to glow a faint blue.

Searing pain, followed by a scream and you letting go of Basil's hand made you process what had just happened. There were more of those creatures. And one had managed to attack you. Basil turned around quickly, his claws scratching the creature and making it stumble back.

"Sprout..."

"I'll protect you. Can't lose friend."

You smiled softly at him, watching him stand in front of you to hold back the creatures. The giant one seemed to be analyzing the situation, a howl leaving him. The others seemed to back off when he growled, relief flooding your system for a moment only to be replaced with worry when the giant swung his hammer, sending Basil crashing into a building.

"SPROUT!" You screamed, scrambling to your feet. You didn't even have time to reach him before your world turned black, the last thing on your mind being your best friend.

After a while your hearing came back to you, although you wish it didn't. What you heard was muffled arguing, causing a soft groan of annoyance to pass your lips. A shrill Move ugly, I wanna see them! reached your ears and you frowned, cracking your eyes to see a doll in a wedding dress peering at you and Basil with her head tilted.

"They're awake!" She cried, dancing in excitement before running off to jump in the lap of a woman wearing funeral attire.

You felt a weight on your shoulder and glanced to the side, relieved to see Basil — and to see that he was still breathing. Your gaze scanned the room before landing on the figure in the center, someone wearing priest like clothing with wings and bird mask.

Fucking weird... everyone and everything here is weird.

"We weird too." Basil's voice invaded your thoughts, your body relaxing. His head slowly lifted from your shoulder and his nose scrunched up, a soft grumble leaving his lips.

"Smell fish."

"Fish?"

"Yes, fish." Your gaze scanned the room before landing on a hunchback figure, a frown gracing your features as you looked back to Basil. He nodded, letting you know the hunchback figure was the cause of the smell.

"Enough." A feminine voice called out, drawing your attention to the figure in the center. "I've heard your arguments, some more convincing than others. The man shall go to Heisenberg—,"

Your eyes widened at that, body shifting closer to Basil's as a means of protecting him if someone tried to take him.

"And his little friend shall come with me instead." Basil bared his fangs at the woman, his hands gripping your shirt.

"Stay. Away."

"Oh shut up, fox boy." The man to your right called, earning a glare from you.

"Don't call him that!"

"Yeah, wolf man. Don't call me that!"

The man narrowed his eyes at the two of you, his fist clenching tightly. You pressed into Basil more, waiting to see what the man would try and do. He didn't get far in whatever it was before the woman spoke again, annoyance lacing every word she said.

"That is my decision. If we must, we'll render the two of you unconscious again an—."

In an instant you and Basil were outside of the village, the two of you staggering to your feet. Howls ripped through the air and you took off, Basil managing to rip his restraints off.

"Will free you when not in danger." He promised, picking you up and running faster.

You had wished you could run as fast as him, wanting to make escaping dangerous situations easier, but that just never happened. He came to a stop when more wolf-like creatures appeared, surrounding you both. The man from earlier appeared, the creatures parting to let him through.

"That was a neat trick, kid." He growled, glaring at you. "But we'll always find you. When Mother Miranda wants something, she always gets it."

"And what does she want now?" You hissed, returning his glare.

"Why, isn't it obvious? She wants you."
