Chapter 2 : A New Member To The Team

Start from the beginning

"You're still in shock?" My focus goes back to what's in front of me, and I found that I had been in a daze looking directly at her. "Am I not one who looks like a former cult member?" L/N asked, almost looking offended.

"People who belong to cults don't have a specific physical look, I would need to know more about you to be able to assume. Some traits would include-"

"Y/N-chan?" A familiar young boy's voice interrupted me. L/N turned her head and had an instant smile.

"Kenji? Well..this is..this is a surprise!!" The woman sat up from her chair immediately and walked over to Kenji to embrace him. "I knew you were coming to Yokohama for a job opportunity, but I didn't know that job opportunity was here!"

"I didn't know you were going to be here either! Mama said you had "gone away on business" or something like that." The boy explained.

"Ah...so you went back home huh?"

"Mhm! Mama also explained that..." Kenji suddenly stopped his statement. He looked to the floor and gulped as he, as I assumed, thought about the news he was given by his mother when we went to his hometown. The woman speaking to him turned to me, clearly concerned by the boy's sudden change in mood. "Well.." He spoke again. "Never mind that! What are you doing here?"

"Oh..uh...I'm just here as an intern. Helping everyone out here at the Agency see. I'm even happier now that you're here, Kenji." L/N explained with a small smile. The blonde stared at her for a moment, then nodded. I lifted my chin, why did she lie?

"Kenji," A secretary came around the corner. "Could you lift a couple of file cabinets and move them for me?"

"Sure! Let's catch up later Y/N." The boy walked away and waved. As soon as he left, L/N's smile faded.

"Why didn't you mention the fact you were a part of the cult we're investigating?" I decided to bring my question to light. She stayed silent for a moment, then turned around to me.

"Right, cause I'm supposed to tell a boy who I consider my brother that I used to be a part of a group that killed his sister," L/N said with a hint of sarcasm. "I'm not going to do that to him, and none of you are going to tell him either."

Fair enough, she'd have to tell him eventually though. I found it odd, it appeared that this woman was one who was constantly around Kenji's younger siblings. Although, only one of the children out of the whole family was murdered by the group. Also seeing that she was fond of Kenji, how could she be a part of the very cult that killed children who were similar to his siblings?

A past thought had lurked in my mind as well. Who could walk out of an organized cult so easily? Especially one that had committed multiple acts of murder to young civilians.

"L/N-san, is anyone after you?"

"Aw, do you mean you intend on protecting me from evil bad guys? That's sweet of you-"

"Shut up and answer the question."

L/N was silent again. "If you're talking about the cult I had left...I'm not sure. They didn't know I was leaving until I already left. I wasn't too important in the group anyway." She shrugged but avoided eye contact.

"Let's also stop calling this cult, "the cult." What did they name themselves?" Dazai jumped in and asked.

"I don't know, but every time they sacrificed a group of kids, they would chant something. Dam Angelus." The woman explained.

"Latin, meaning For The Angel." I translated quickly. "You don't know the name of the cult you were a part of?"

"I was someone who did the errands. Would bring supplies and food. Not to mention I was forced into it." She explained casually. Forced? Was this the case for many of the members? Although, that would mostly defeat the purpose of their cause. Not to mention, who was the Angel?
