Clutching a small bag in her arm, she walked over to the desk behind mine. I merely gave her a small side-eye and began my work. It surely wasn't the morning I was expecting. A woman who had appeared to be as reckless and annoying as my current coworker, Dazai, walked into the agency and made herself a part of our team. Speaking of Dazai, the two of them had started a conversation with a topic that didn't seem to correlate with work. Of course, if a woman walks into the agency, what else should I expect from Dazai? It's almost as if he's more interested in flattering them rather than completing paperwork I had asked him to complete after we came back to Yokohama.

After brewing some morning coffee to prevent a possible headache, typing information I was given by the president into a separate document and making a small business call, I finally had enough of the lack of productivity between those two. I stood up from my seat and walked over to the two of them.

"Dazai." Almost immediately, L/N spun her chair around, away from the two of us.

"Ah, Kunikida! You should introduce yourself to L/N here! She's quite a polite one, I think you'd like her." The brunette said with a grin. Polite wasn't a word that I thought of when I thought of the woman.

"In any case, I expect that paperwork assigned to you will be done by noon. I'd get to work if I were you." I reminded him to do his job. Not something an average person would think to have to do, but it's a daily occurrence for him.

"Oh c'mon now-" He slouched his shoulders down and whined as he usually would.

"And you." I spun L/N's chair around to face me, which revealed her sitting with her feet up on the chair, holding a book and paying no attention to us. Odd how she had only begun reading when I came, as if she was ignoring me. "Don't you have some work to do? If not, there's plenty I can assign to you."

"Mm, ehh.." She gave an answer that was hardly audible, still holding the book in hand. Being irritated, I grabbed the top of the book out of her hands. "Hey!!"

"Pay attention to me when I'm talking to you," I said, closing the book and bringing it out of her reach while she tried to retrieve it.

"You're not the one who hired me, so I'll kindly decline the offer of receiving more work from you." She slouched back down into her chair after giving up on her book.

"Why were you hired? Are you some agent from the Ministry of Defense?" I questioned, even though the probability of her belonging to such a division is close to zero.

"No."

"Do you have some sort of crazy special ability that will help us solve this case?"

"Negative." She shook her head.

"Then why are you here?"

"Because..sir. This said cult that your agency is investigating is one that I was a part of." I blinked and the woman disappeared from her seat. Where in the world did she go? Finally, there was a tap behind me which turned out to be L/N. She smiled with the book I had taken in her hand. Confused, my gaze went back to my hand, only to see that the book was not in it.

"How did you....wait did you just say you were apart.....what?"

"Yeah, you didn't know?" Dazai's haunting voice came up from behind me and spoke. "Miss L/N here is quite the convenient one to have on our team, yes?"

Huh

"Well, I'm flattered to be seen as convenient, Dazai. Glad years of being in this stupid cult became useful." L/N said as she went back to her seat, spinning around in it a few times.

Hold on, I was still a bit confused. I could understand why she was there, but her out of all people? And how exactly did she leave this cult without being targeted? Unless she was, and she merely went to the Agency for protection?
