"I know," Eugene tells him, kindly but firmly grabbing his shoulders. "Please Varian, I didn't say anything about suspecting you. Yes, that may have been the first place my mind went when I read that fortune, but that doesn't mean I think you'll actually do it."

Varian sighs, forcing himself to calm down but still not totally sure how he feels

Varian sighs, forcing himself to calm down but still not totally sure how he feels. "Okay. Okay... I'm sorry, Eugene."

"So it's settled," Rapunzel says. "No one is turning against me. We're all in this together."

They again resume their trek, as the others follow at a distance behind them.

"...Although," Eugene continues, glancing behind him to make sure the others can't hear him. "Cass has been acting suspiciously peculiar lately..."

Varian considers this. He has noticed a change in Cassandra, too. She's grumpier than usual, spaced out a lot, talks to herself when she thinks no one else is around... But no, it couldn't be her.

"It's not Cass," Varian says firmly. "I love her, and I refuse to believe she would do anything to hurt any of us." He is finally comfortable enough to admit his feelings, now that everyone knows anyway.

Rapunzel and Eugene's eyes widen slightly at Varian's open admission, but Eugene shakes his head. "Unless she thought she was protecting Rapunzel," he adds. "After all, that's how she injured her hand."

"You really think Cass...?" Rapunzel says hesitantly.

"Look, look, look. I love Cass too," Eugene says. "She's become like a sister to me. Granted, you know, an annoying sister you only put up with because you have to. But maybe we should, ya know, keep an eye on—"

Before he can complete his sentence, a raven flies out of nowhere and collides with Eugene's face. It falls to the ground, and begins to flop around at his feet, cawing manically.

"What is that bird doing?" Eugene says, as the rest of the gang come up behind them and stare at the insane bird in shock.

"Uh, maybe you should try asking his friends," Cassandra says, her finger shaking as she points up to the sky.

A feeling of dread fills Varian as he gazes up and catches sight of a huge flock of ravens coming straight for them.

"I already have a strong dislike for this kingdom!" Varian shouts, as they all scatter to escape the attacking birds.

The ravens chase the gang, attempting to peck and scratch at them. Rapunzel uses her frying pan to shield herself from their blows, but the others aren't so lucky.

During the attack, Varian notices a pattern in the flock's formation... They all seem to be following a specific lead bird. "Rapunzel!" Varian shouts, gazing up as a raven attempts to tear at the patch on his shirt. "That bird right there is the leader!"
