Illegal (15) Basketball

It's been three months since my mom died. I don't know, it's like I'm just waking up because I'm used to it. I have lost the will to live. I have lost my appetite for everything since Mom disappeared. I can't but I try to cope, I don't want to disappoint Mom.

In those months, only Kirk was always with me. He's been with me and he's taking care of me. I'm getting used to his presence but my brain still can't process the letter Mom gave me.

I hope she didn't gave up her life just like that. I still want to be with her but I don't want to see her struggling anymore.

“Hey, get up. We still have a class to attend.”

I looked up and saw Kirk standing outside my door. Every Sunday, he sleeps here to take care of me. But every weekdays he's with his family, his parents don't know that he is staying here because what he said is that he is at his friend's house which I don't know who.

"I don't want to go to class."

"Such a brat."

He carried me to my bathroom and I never protested again. I knew I couldn’t resist Kirk, knowing him.

I allowed him to court me since I read Mom's letter. I think there's nothing wrong with that? Or does it have? They don't have relationship and besides, I have developed feelings for him.

“Take a bath, baby. I'll go now, we still have practice.”

I just nodded at what he said and I heard my door close. I sighed before I went inside the bathroom.

"Cassandra!"

I turned to the source of the voice and saw Kendra waving towards me. I felt even better for her when Mommy died. She did not leave me alone during those times. She started to treat her mom well, too.

“Let's watch practice! It looks like Kirk Valencia is there!”

“H-huh? We will pass some requirements, right?”

She rolled her eyes first until she saw  a woman in the mirror while carrying three books. She blocked her way and immediately smiled at the woman, “You're our classmate, aren't you? Please pass these also? Thank you.”

She gave her sweetest smile to that girl and we left her gaping in the middle. I just shook my head, Kendra changed the way she treats her mommy but the way she treats the students here is still the same.

When we arrived at the gymnasium, we can hear a lot of people who's shouting. There were also women cheering for them.

It's just practice, isn't it? Why does it seem like so many people are here immediately?

“What is your relationship with him? Last time he picked you up in the room.”

"N-nothing."

She just raised an eyebrow at me and she continued to tease the people inside the gymnasium. She didn’t have a care on the people she bumped into until we got to the first bleacher, “Here we go, face to face. It feels so good.”

I just smiled at what she said and ignored her cheering for Mikiel. Only last month, we found out that the three boys joined the varsity. It looks like they have something to be proud of based on their try out.

My eyes searched for Kirk and I saw he was surrounded by women. One of my eyebrows rose immediately. That asshole really like the wiping of the female leeches with his sweat!

The game is not even starting! Then why wipe off the sweat immediately? Mygosh?

“Leeddddddd! Scevennnnn! Kielllllllll!”

Kendra's calling of their names seemed to distract the three. Kendra waved her hand and Leed ran towards us, "Hey let's go, sit up there."

I just drifted with Kendra pulling me until we reached their bench. Newbies like Sceven will be up against Kirk. I know that this is their way to find out how far the beginners are capable.

Kirk is the captain, hmm not bad.

I turned to Kirk and he's looking right at me as well. I raised an eyebrow at him before turning my gaze to Sceven, "Scevy, how many points do you need?"

"As far as I know, we should get 30 points within five minutes?"

"Five minutes?!"

"Yeah, maybe that's why."

He smiled at me so I could see the perfect set of his teeth. Ugh, until now I still really have a crush on Sceven. I think it would be for a lifetime, it's just an infatuation. He took great care of me and I really appreciate that.

"Goodluck."

"Where's my goodluck kiss?"

My ear tingled with what he said and before I could react, he kissed my cheek on his own. I looked over to where Kirk is and saw him staring sharply at me before he averted his gaze. He immediately went at the center when the referee blew his whistle.

Kirk and Leed were on the jump ball while some seemed to be cluttered because they were scattered. Lol. Natural Cassy mygosh!

Kirk tapped the ball and Mikiel immediately got it, "Go Kiel baby!"

I covered my ear when Kendra shouted. She is restless because Kiel is serious about playing, which makes her more happy since she feels that Kiel is serious about her. Like what the hell?

Mikiel passes the ball to Sceven and shoot it. The ball went in so I couldn’t help but stand up and shout, “Go Scevy!”

He seemed to hear my scream because he turned to me and winked. I couldn't help but bite my lip, is it because Sceven is so cute?!

When three minutes passed, Kirk's team much higher in two points. The score is 15-17 and it looks like the two are already warming up. Sometimes Sceven hits Kirk so I can't help but worry about Kirk because it's obvious on his face that he's hurt.

"Why does there seem to be growing tension between Kirk and Sceven?"

I looked at them and it looked like they were just the two of them playing because Sceven didn't even pass the ball to his teammates while Kirk just kept on defending.

Kirk tapped the ball to Sceven and he was about to take it when Sceven hitted his mouth. Everyone stood up in their seats and even me! I went straight to the crowd and saw Kirk's tooth bleeding.

I immediately pulled him over and asked Sceven to help me bring him in the clinic. Almost everyone followed us. I was worried with Kirk, what would happen to him even though I knew it was far from the gut!

"Kirk, stay awake-"

"I will..."

Even with his eyes closed I knew he was not asleep. I just sighed, "...for you."
