Never coming back

Newt's POV:

Minutes felt like hours, watching the love of my life as she remained trapped in what seemed like a never ending slumber. Quintin had disinfected and he cleaned the wound to be able to wrap it. The gauze stretched over YN's lower stomach.

I wanted this to all be over. My entire life all I wanted was for this reoccurring nightmare to end. To finally live without being scared of death roaming every step of the way. Hopefully, once we found Tommy, we could finally go to a place we would call home.

I continue to hold YN's hand, resting it on my lips. I was waiting for a reaction. A squeeze on my own hand, anything that told me she was going to be okay, but it never came. YN remained unconscious, laying on the small bed.

Quintin had left a little bit ago. The others were still trying to find Thomas in the sea of chaos. No one had mentioned or caught any sign of him yet, but we all knew he was still inside WICKED's facility.

"NEWT!" A loud shout, disrupts the silence. I immediately recognize it as Minho's voice.

I kiss the top of YN's head before rushing out of the secluded room and out where the others are.

"What's going on?" I question, noticing that the door to the berg is opening up again. The bright lights from the flames lighten up the inside of the berg. A building is revealed below us.

"We found Thomas!" Minho shouts, getting dangerously close to the edge of the berg where Vince also stands. I push through to join them and spot Thomas laying on the roof of what's left of WICKED's destroyed building. He lays on the ground as if he were injured. Teresa holds onto him. Her head tilts back, spotting us.

"THOMAS!" Vince yells, crouching down on his knees as Jorge, who flies the berg, attempts to get as close as he can to reach our friend. Vince, Minho, Gally, and I follow on the ramp being careful because a fall would easily result in death.

Teresa notices us and holds Thomas with his arm over her shoulder. Thomas clutches his stomach where I see a circle of dark blood almost identical to YN's.

"COME ON!" Minho keeps shouting, trying to save his other best friend. I crouch next to him to spot him and make sure the boy we just rescued doesn't fall.

"JORGE YOU GOT TO GET CLOSER!" Vince screams realizing that from here there is no safe way to get Thomas and Teresa on the berg.

"I CAN'T!" Jorge calls back and we all know it's the truth because if we get too close to the burning building, we could fall with it.

Teresa almost drags Tommy trying to get as close to the berg as she can. Vince and Minho hold out their arms indicating that the only way to get them on is to jump. Teresa is able to throw Thomas' weak body forward. Vince and Minho immediately grab ahold of him and pull him onto the safety of the flying berg. Once on the jet like vehicle, Thomas lays on his side, looking out at Teresa, waiting for her to jump on as well. Vince remains in his same spot, holding out his hand similar to the way he did with Thomas. Teresa just stands there as if wondering wether or not she should jump with us. Thomas stares at the raven haired girl, hurt fills his eyes once realization hits him and everyone else on the berg.

Teresa is not going to jump.

The collapsing building rumbles beneath her feet and the girl struggles to balance herself. The wind flies through her brown hair, sweat making some of it stick to her face, and the ground below Teresa crumbles making her fall with it. Thomas screams out for her. We all quietly watch as the girl falls with WICKED's building. No one dares to speak for a second, not really knowing what to say about what just happened before our eyes. The berg's back door slowly starts to close like a theatre's curtain closing on its final act and everyone crowds around Thomas. Brenda holds onto his face, resting his head on her lap. She reaches down to his bloodied shirt and I spot a bullet that's dug into his skin.

"We need to help him." Brenda states the obvious. Thomas's eyes slowly close, slipping into unconsciousness exactly the same way YN did minutes ago. Almost like Dejavú.

Vince quickly regains his position as leader while Thomas is out. He begins to pick up Thomas with the help of Minho, Fry, and me. We carry him onto an empty mattress that lies in the corner that I had failed to spot earlier.

"Do you know how to remove bullets boy?" Vince ask sQuintin who now stands with us as we surround Tommy's unconscious body.

"I learned how a few times. I can help him too." Quintin shakes his head yes.

He rushes to grab more supplies and i find myself surprisingly thankful that YN had a boyfriend in her past life. With Quintin aboard, maybe he could save a lot more lives than he thought. He saved YN already, well I hoped. Both one of my best friends and my girlfriend are knocked out. The best we could hope for was that they would wake up some time. Nothing was for sure at this moment.

Quintin quickly returns with medical supplies. I watch from a distance as he tugs the bottom end of his blood stained shirt. From Thomas's pockets two items spill out. Quintin lifts the two up and I can't see them from where I stand.

"Um," the curly haired boy holds out the two objects so that they're now in Minho and I's eyes view.

The first one is Chuck's wooden figure. The carving that he trusted Thomas with so many months ago when the young boy died. The memory causes me to fill with sadness, so I turn my focus to the other object in Quintin's tan hand. The other one is a tube of blue liquid. I let out a quiet gasp. It's the cure. Minho takes it from Quintin's palm and studies it as well. He seems to realize what it is too and he shoves it into my hands.

"Take it to her Newt." Minho takes back his hands. "Cure YN."

Happiness overtakes the sadness that had built up throughout this entire night. Thomas did it. He got YN the cure he promised her. My lips quiver trying to form a smile to show appreciation. I hold onto the fragile glass tube in both my hands, afraid to destroy its delicate structure. I leave Quintin to treat Thomas and slowly walk to the room YN lies in. The door opens with a small creak. Her body remains in the same spot I left her in. Her shirt still folded over her chest with the gauze wrapped around her injured stomach. Her bare arms are beginning to develop more of the horrifying black veins, proving that the bliss was not the cure. I take in a deep breath, stepping in and closing the door behind me. I bring myself and the tube towards YN's body. Her chest continues to rise and fall at a constant pace and relief floods me as I realize she's still alive. I take one step followed by another until I reach the twin bed. I sit next to her abdomen still clutching the blue liquid. I stare at it and begin to move YN's loose strands of hair from her neck. Without hesitation I push the serum tube into her neck. Slowly, the liquid releases from the enclosed tube and into her bloodstream. I watch in awe as the black veins that cover her body begin to fade. I find myself smiling a smile of relief realizing that the serum worked. And we were able to cure YN. Now we just waited for her to wake up.

The events from tonight start to replay in my mind. All the awful things that we went through. Just as kids. WICKED was supposed to help save the world, yet they were the one tearing it apart. If there was one thing I was sure of it was that we were never coming back to the last city, or what remained of it. After all the trauma and torture they put us through there're was no bloody way that we would return. As soon as we returned the boat would be waiting and so would a new life in the Safe Haven we had always dreamed of. A place to finally live without fear and be normal teenagers in a normal life. A second chance at what life should truly be like. Not a nightmare nor a horror story, but happiness and love.
