Chapter Sixty Six

Start from the beginning

Unlike the outside of the house, the interior was more modern than traditional. Before heading into the kitchen where Zhang and Alo were waiting, Nakai wanted to give Wang Bao a brief tour of everything. Beside the foyer was a staircase leading to the second floor that was reserved for bedrooms and two bathrooms, while the downstairs had been renovated to be mainly open plan. The side of the house that faced the ocean held two living rooms with the kitchen and dining area sitting in the middle, while the downstairs bathroom and separate toilet were separated by a wide hallway. Once coming back downstairs, Wang Bao slowly walked down the hallway, looking at all the statues and paintings Nakai had collected over the years of helping people get out of Werebeast continent. At the end of the hallway, Wang Bao could see an empty unfinished room as well as the back door that appeared to lead to a courtyard. Wang Bao couldn't help but feel that the house was rather cosy despite everything being made to be more fitted for people who were Giant sized. When Nakai pulled Wang Bao into the kitchen area, they could see Zhang was boiling some water for a hot drink while Alo was angrily pacing along the length of the counter. It was obvious by the frown between Alo's brow that he was angry, and when Zhang saw Nakai, he said in a hushed voice.

"Alo can't get a hold of Ala. The call won't connect, it goes straight to the cell provider saying the number doesn't exist."

Just as Zhang finished explaining, Alo threw his phone out the open window towards the beautiful sandy beach. Without looking at anyone, Alo stopped his pacing to say in a bitter voice.

"She's not answering. It doesn't matter whether we're on separate missions or in a life or death situation, she always answers my calls. Always, Nakai!"

Without bothering to wait and hear what Nakai had to say, Alo left the kitchen to head upstairs. Zhang felt incredibly awkward since he had been standing between Nakai and Alo, while Wang Bao was deeply concerned for Ala's safety. He didn't know much about Ala's mission with Rana, and he felt that if he were to ask right now, Nakai wouldn't tell him. A seed of anxiety had already been planted after the first time Nakai had refused to be open with him in Man Country, and it had continued to grow slowly with every secret. When Nakai looked down at Wang Bao to see why he was so quiet, he could see Wang Bao was feeling stressed, but guessed it was because of Alo's mood rather than the build of withheld information. While Nakai leaned down to kiss Wang Bao on the forehead, Mika and Luka suddenly came in, declaring they were hungry. Zhang quickly jumped on the idea of eating, and everyone looked at Nakai expectantly, but he had had enough of cooking; he also wanted to go have a chat with Alo, and pushed Wang Bao to the middle of the kitchen before heading upstairs. Looking at Nakai's back as he left the room, Wang Bao couldn't help but snicker before looking around the large kitchen.

It had been a long time since he had stepped foot in a kitchen, and with everything being slightly too large or high for him, he couldn't help but feel a little awkward. Wang Bao wanted to cook anyway since he had missed the activity despite Nakai's amazing food, to make sure his meal didn't dip in quality, Wang Bao rummaged through his bag until he found the old cookbooks Pou had given him, flicking through the pages to find an easy recipe. When they had been on the boat about to dock, Nakai had made a few phone calls, and Wang Bao saw when he opened the cupboards that it was most likely to have someone stock the house with food. Everything from cold cooked meat and cheese, to baking supplies and canned goods filled the cupboards and fridge, allowing Wang Bao to pick any recipe inside his book. To keep things simple, Wang Bao decided to make two pasta dishes; a pesto pasta, and sundried tomato pasta, along with a salad on the side. After spending so long eating hot stews, Wang Bao was in the mood for something fresh that suited the warm weather on the island. With the help of pre-packaged pasta, the simple lunch was done in less than thirty minutes, but Nakai and Alo were yet to come down stairs.
