"I was doing double the work cause of you." Clarity tried to defend herself. "It was too much. You couldn't even do your own."
"It's not that I couldn't. Why should I have had to when I have you around to do it for me? It's that I didn't want to. Would've been a waste of my time. I had better things to study than that drivel." Delancy admonished.
"Like what?" Clarity wondered.
"Wouldn't you like to know." Delancy ran a hand along Clarity's dresser pointy manicured nails scraping against the wood. "Respect is reserved for those who've died, I have nothing but respect for your mother. With you as a daughter it's a miracle she even survived giving birth to a freak like you. To survive as long as she did with a let down like you around," Delancy slowly clapped her hands. "Everyone should give her a round of applause."
"What do you want, Delancy?" Clarity asked her, her fear only increasing each moment she was alone with her.
"Oh, I just wanted to see you. It's been so long. Everybody in town knows you'd rather be dead than come back home these days." Delancy pulled out a compact applying a bit of blush to her face. As if Clarity didn't even deserve her full attention when speaking to her. "Bet you made your mom so lonely, never coming back to visit and now you come home when she's passed? Too little too late, might as well have told your parents how much you hate them. How ashamed you are to be their daughter."
"That's...that's not true. I-I never left to get away from them." Clarity denied, Delancy's smirked her ruby red lipstick glinting in the setting sun, eyes alight with intrigue as if daring Clarity to elaborate on just who it was she was running away from. Though they both knew already, it was her. "I love my parents. My life, everything in the city it just got... crazy."
"Excuses, excuses. " Delancy finished applying her blush her compact snapping closed, Clarity flinching at the sound as Delancy turned her head to face her with a thin smile. Eyes squinting lightly. "Why are you still here, hm?"
"It's my mother's wake, Delancy. Take a guess."
"No, no," Delancy shook her head walking closer to her, voice soft. Getting into Claritys personal space. "Why are you still breathing?"
"I-w-what?" Clarity asked taking a few steps back from her.
"You heard me, glitch." Delancy replied venom in her voice as she said the final word, Delancy surged forwards pinning Clarity to the wall arm at her throat, though it didn't yet press down to suffocate her. Leading Clarity to wonder which breath was about to be her last. From downstairs Sara looked to the stairwell in confusion as she saw a few pictures of Clarity in her younger years that she'd been admiring shake on the wall.
"Why are you still breathing? You're worse than nothing. A waste of a life. The world would be a better place if you weren't in it. How many times are you going to have me repeat myself before you drill it into that empty head of yours. Ears too mud filled to listen freak?"
"There are people downstairs." Clarity's heart raced. "One not quite right sound up here they'll came running." Clarity reached into her pocket she could have started crying then and there as she felt it was empty. She'd left Silvia on the ship. Of course she had. She hadn't wanted her dad to see it and question it. Knowing Delancy she wasn't going to give her the chance to scream.
"Oh Clarity, I'm not going to kill you. Your not worth the effort it would take me right now. But you're right. It would make me happy. You want to make me happy don't you? You should cut your losses. Finish what you were gonna do back in high school. What Josh had the guts to do and you never did." Delancy stared her directly in the eye. "Kill yourself."
"I-I don't need you to tell me any of this anymore. I know okay? I know." Clarity replied, her mother's life was cut short by her hands. Clarity didn't need reminding of that. "You've made your point. Just go."
"Oh, but I haven't. You see I don't think you do, not really." Delancy's lips curled into a smirk. "In fact, I know you don't. You think I'm gonna get tired of you cause we're all grown up now, that I'm gonna leave you alone let you live your life. Think again, Glitch. You killed my fiancé. I'm still working on how, lots of red tape to get through, but once I find out, if you haven't done the noble thing and ended yourself by then, I'll make you wish you had, because everyone you know and love they'll suffer because of you. Then I'll send you to hell where freaks like you belong."
Clarity sucked in a breath shocked by her words, and the sight of an all too familiar blue ring on Delancy's necklace. The one that had been on her finger years ago. Tyler's grandmothers ring. She knew he was seeing someone, but she never would have thought Tyler would date Delancy of all people. After everything she ever told him about her? She stammered fumbling for an answer that wasn't going to come. "I-I-"
"What's that? Ohhh. How precious." Delancy cooed, "Look at that your g-g-g-glitching." Delancy laughed at her tauntingly. "Some things never change do they? Sorry, can't hear you, your momsy never did teach you to speak properly did she? Not that I really blame her. You did ruin her life. Don't believe me?" Delancy asked. "Here, read it for yourself."
She backed off just enough to pass Clarity a small red journal.
"Clarity-" Sara stopped herself short as she finally found the glitch upstairs, but by the time Sara got there Delancy was long gone. As if she'd vanished into thin air. Clarity was sitting on the floor, reading her mother's old diary. Tears dotting the pages falling from her eyes. "-what are you doing up here?" Sara took in the sight before her. "What's wrong? You miss your mom-?"
"She didn't want me." Clarity lifted her head to look at Sara. "My mom was gonna abort me. I-I ruined her life. She didn't want me. She never wanted me, Sara."
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
And that's where I'm ending pt 1 of this chapter! Sorry I wasn't going to split it up at first but as with most of my writing it just got way too long and I think the shorter ones you all voted that you liked better?? So, this chapter got split into 2. I know this story is currently a bit depressing, but we're nearing the end of that. Moving towards wholesome family moments, and a wedding and young love and lots of Sarity angst due to avalance and so much more! But Clarity's gonna get out of her funk real soon and get back to her normal bubbly self. I promise. Now as always here are the questions and I'll see you soon for part 2!
1. How'd you feel while reading this chapter? Why'd you feel this way?
2. Did you have any favorite moments this chapter? Or conversely any moments that you hated with every fiber of your being?
3. Uh oh, Delancy's all grown up and out for blood. What did you think of her and Clarity finally meeting again?
4. What did you think of Clarity's father meeting the team?
5. Do you think Clarity's dad would hate her for having powers if he found out she killed her mom? Why or why not?
6. Claritys gonna be seeing Thawne again in crisis. How do you think she's gonna take seeing him again?
7. Any guesses as to why Claritys moms family essentially cut her off? I'd love to hear your theories.
8. Finish this sentence. "In my opinion this book would be better if...."
9. Your desired Clarity ship is stuck in a broom closet together. There is no way for them to get out. No glitching no nothing, Claritys drained. What happens?
10. Do you think Felicity is a good friend to Clarity? Or do you think Clarity needs a new best friend. If she does need a new best friend who should it be?
11. What do you wish Clarity could see about herself more than anything?
12. Thoughts on Delancy and Tyler being an item? 🤭😈
13. Anything else you'd like to ask, rant and or tell me!
