"That's right." Mick nodded his head, walking out of the house. "Beer's already chilling in the fridge." Mick held out his hand to Clarity's dad toasting his beer in Clarity's direction. "You raised a good woman. Willing to bet her mom was the same way."

"She was." Nick nodded his head smoking his cigar.

"Sparky, your cake's burning." Mick nodded back inside.

"Urgh, Mom's totally rolling in her urn." Clarity fretted rushing back inside to save the cake. "Gran in her grave too."

"I didn't know you talked to your parents about me." Sara walked into the kitchen following after Clarity.

"I talk to my parents about everything and everyone, Sara, save for sex. That's just no you don't go there." Clarity replied using oven mitts to take out her cake. Luckily it didn't look too bad. Mick's warning having been enough to save it. "So, almost everything. They know the basics about everyone, just not the insanity of what we really do parts. No superpowers, assassin skills or time travel, or any of that kind of thing. I never got the chance to tell my mom.." Clarity frowned to herself. "Jesus I'm still talking about her like she's still here. I can't tell my dad. He can't know. Not now. Not ever."

"Are you sure that's what you want? Seems like you regret not telling your mom." Zari pointed out as Amaya started cleaning up the flour on the counter.

"I killed my mom with my powers." Clarity replied voice kept low. "I put her in that coma, I cut her life short. It might've been different if she'd woken up, but my parents loved each other. They were together for 27 years. Never missed a single anniversary. My dad'll never look at me the same way again if he found out that I-Please, if you guys really want to help me, if you want to be here for me, keep my secret identity secret like it's supposed to be." She looked at Sara. "Make sure you get enough sleep so that you actually do that okay? This is the last shred of a normal life that I have left. I can't lose it, I can't lose my dad. I just lost my mom. I just lost Tyler. I can't keep losing people close to me. So please."

"Okay," Sara promised, "Clarity, no one's gonna out you. I promise, your secrets safe with us."

A little while later the wake began. The whole town was pouring in to their little farm and then scurrying out just as fast. No one seemed to be thrilled to be there getting away as fast as was politely possible. If anything the majority of the town looked annoyed that they even had to show up but it was the neighborly thing to do. The Springs family wasn't well liked around these parts if you couldn't tell. Many believed the rumors Nick had abused Clarity when she was little on account of the state taking her. The man had been the town drunk for a number of years before he sobered himself up. Though Clarity had been so young at the time she had no recollection of it. Her mom had always been good at shielding her from the horrible truths of the world. Rumors all just got worse as time went on. They were all flitting about the house in disjointed whispers. Eventually, needing a moment to collect herself when things got to be a bit too much for her Clarity went up to her old bedroom. She just needed a moment to gather herself having heard a few too many snide comments about her father. Her normal colored contacts doing nothing to help her watery eyes.
