"Uh, you don't have to worry about sittin anybody down yet. I was interested in Sara, we really barely gave it half a night. It was like half a date. I still really am interested in her, but she...she tried to use me to get something instead of talking to me and asking. When I caught her, she lied to me, tried to anyways." Clarity sighed. "With mom gone, now doesn't feel like the right time to put myself back out there again. I don't want to drag my grief into a new relationship that wouldn't be fair to whoever I'm with. I was gonna give her a second chance, ask her to be my date to Barry's wedding, but I don't want to ruin her time if I start getting down about things."
"You don't gotta rush in to anything you aren't ready for. If this girl likes you half as much as you do her, she'll wait until you are. Then I'm sure you two can give it another go." Her dad told her.
"Maybe we can." Clarity replied walking up the last of the stairs. "Night Dad,"
"See you in the morning." He replied the two retreating into their bedrooms.
The next day Clarity and her father had already been up for hours by the time the legends all parked the two cars they rented in front of Claritys house. The group of hero's all striding up to the house.
"Clarity! Your friends are here!" Nick called back into the house. Her father sittin on the porch, whittling a flower out of some wood scraps to put on Claritys moms grave when the time came. He couldn't help the smile that pulled at his lips. It was a sentence he never thought he'd truly say. One he wished his wife was alive to hear, but he hoped she was lookin down on them with a smile.
Clarity came rushing out of the house screen door banging back against the frame. She was wearing an apron, flour covering her hands, on her cheek, and her poor denim skirt. She was in the middle of baking something. Her bare feet bouncing up and down. "Hey, Cmon! Watch that front step, it'll get ya."
"You cooking something?" Amaya asked pointing to her cheek first one to make the porch.
"Oh," Clarity wiped away the flour with a little laugh. "My grandma's upside down cake, only ever made it for days like this, it's the upside down part that's giving me some trouble. I try to flip it and Uh you can see the mess for yourself."
"Hi, Mr. Springs." Ray waved in greeting. "I'm Ray Palmer, terribly sorry for your loss."
"You that guy who was dating Clarity's friend Felicity and got her stolen from you by the other billionaire but neither one of you are billionaire's anymore?" Nick asked recognizing the name.
Ray cleared his throat. "Uh, yes, sir."
"Drop the sir. I'm not in the army anymore. Just call me, Nick. No need for any introductions. Clarity talks about ya'll plenty." Nick blew out some smoke from his cigar. "Let's see if I can get this right. The ones with family trinkets are Amaya and Zari," Nick pointed between the two women respectively, not that he knew of their heirlooms mystical nature. "Already got Ray, which makes you Nate." Nick pointed at the historian. Who nodded holding up the casserole he'd brought. "Burly lumbering fellow who walked round back must've been Rory." He stood up from his chair. "Blonde hair, enchanting blue eyes, freckles for days, you've got to be Sara." Nick held out his hand. "Nice to finally meet the woman my daughter talks my ear off about."
"Dad." Clarity admonished hands covering her cheeks to hide her electric blush. "Stop..."
"And the rest of her team." Nick added on after he crossed his arms. "The ones missing seem to be Jax, Professor Stein, Gary, Rip and his kid that hangs around the office all day."
"Some people had to stay behind. They wanted to come but they drew the short straws." Sara explained. "Monitor duty."
"For the bureau." Clarity added hastily. "FBI can't be down a whole division."
