Dear Diary,
Today was the day I have lost everything. I witnessed my entire family and all my friends get torn apart by muertos. They had arrived at our camp without any of us knowing. Mom, Dad, Matias, and all of my friends, all gone, all taken from my life in a matter of minutes. Dad told me to run and so I did. I ran from the horror scene in front of me, never to see any of my loved ones ever again. I've lost everyday today. I have no-one left, I have nothing left.

She ran and ran, tears streaming down her face as she sobbed heavily. She tried to get her legs to stop running but she couldn't. She couldn't help but run. She had just lost everything she had left. Everyone she loved was now gone. Her mom, her dad, her older brother. Their camp got overrun and just like that, everyone around her was dead.

She let out a small yelp as she fell to the ground, her foot tripping over a mysterious object. She groaned and looked to see an abandoned bicycle laying on the bed of dead leaves on the ground. Still hysterical with tears, she got up and picked up the bicycle, climbing onto it and cycling to the main road. How was she going to survive all by herself? She had no idea how to defend herself against muertos. Her dad and her brother protected her and her mother from the flesh eating monsters but they were gone now. She had absolutely zero survival skills. She had no weapons, no food, no water, no medicine, nothing.

The chain of the bicycle snapped, causing her to fall onto the ground again. She groaned when she felt a pain on her elbow and noticed it starting to bleed. Everything was going wrong for her. She was doomed. She screamed and picked up the bicycle before throwing it into a tree in anger. She was upset, she was angry, she was alone. She fell to the ground in hysterical tears. Her heart and her chest felt heavy and no matter how much she sobbed and screamed, she couldn't get rid of that feeling. There she sat on the side of the road, sobbing loudly and awaiting a muerto to claim her as its afternoon lunch. She wanted to die. She had no-one left so what was the point of living? She had nothing to live for. She cried and brought her knees to her chest before burying her head away, not wanting to look at the world any longer.

She was crying so heavily, she didn't even hear the sound of approaching vehicles. It wasn't until she felt a tap on her shoulder that she jumped and lifted her head up, her face still covered in tears and her hair looking like a bird's nest. In front of her, she saw two trucks, one that had a motorcycle in the back, a car and an RV. A man stood in front of her, looking down at her in concern. The man wore a brown Sheriff's uniform and matching hat. He had blue eyes and a light stubble.

"Are you okay?" The man asked her with a Southern accent but she stayed silent. She had nothing to say to this man. She didn't know him. She couldn't trust him. "Are you hurt? Are you bitten?"

This man approached me, all dressed in a Sherriff's uniform. I didn't know what to think. I hadn't even noticed him approach me. I just wanted him to leave me alone. I didn't want to be around anyone.

She wiped her tears and slowly shook her head, still sat on the ground. The man analysed her. She seemed to have no weapons on her. She had a small bag but that was about it. She looked emotionally drained. Something had clearly happened to this girl. She didn't look like a threat.

"What's the hold up?" She heard a rough voice say. It wasn't the voice of the man standing in front of her. It was a different man. This man was sitting in a truck, the truck with the bike at the back.

"Give me a second, Daryl." The man said before looking back at her.

"P-please, leave me al-alone." She hiccupped. Her voice sounded sweet but it was shaken, laced with fear and pain.

"I'm afraid I can't do that." The man said with a soft smile before crouching down in front of her.

"Please....just let me die in peace....please." She begged as more tears ran down her cheeks.

"I used to be a Sherriff, if you can't already tell." The man said as he gestured to his clothes. "My job was to protect people, so you can understand why I can't let you stay here on your own."

"That world...it's dead. You don't have to do that anymore." She muttered as the man sighed.

I thought the man was delusional, like he hadn't accepted that the world had changed, that it was dead. I understood that he wanted to help me but I couldn't help but worry. If he believed the world hadn't changed, he would die very quickly.

"I know but I can't help it. We already left one man to die on the side of the road. I don't think any one of us could leave another person behind." The man said with a small smile. She looked up at the man. The man noticed she had sparkly light brown eyes, dark brown hair and golden olive skin. She looked like she could have been a college girl or an newly graduate. He doubted she knew how to protect herself, especially with her lack of weapons on her. He had already left one man to die on a rooftop, another man to die on the side of the road. His conscience couldn't handle leaving another innocent soul alone to die. "My group and I...we're headed to the CDC. Wanna know if they have a cure or if they're working on a cure for whatever virus this is going around."

She looked at the man, her eyes still flooded with tears. She had heard that the CDC was working on a cure but she didn't know if it was true or not. Her family were convinced it wasn't. As far as they knew, the world was dead. Everyone and everything was dead.

"You're going into the city?" She asked as she wiped her fresh tears. "You're probably walking straight into a death trap."

"Well, we won't know until we get there. Why don't you come with us? We have women and children with us. You'll be safe." The man offered. She looked at one of the cars and saw two women, each of them with a child next to them, a little boy and a little girl.

"Why are you inviting me? I could be a threat." She said to the man who chuckled slightly.

"We stopped to see you sitting on the side of the road in tears with no weapons and a graze on your elbow. I don't think you could hurt us." The man said, making her sigh.

"How can I trust you? How do I know you won't kill me?" She asked.

"You don't know. You'll just have to trust us, like we'll have to trust you." The man said before extending his hand to her so she could get up. She looked up at the man who seemed to have kind eyes. Maybe this man was telling the truth. Maybe she would be safe with them. She accepted his hand and the man pulled her up. "I'm Rick. Rick Grimes."

"I'm...I'm Anita. Anita Johal." She said as she tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear.

"Why don't you settle into the RV? There's plenty of space inside. You'll be comfortable." Rick said. Anita nodded, watching Rick as he went back to his car. She looked at the door of the RV before climbing inside.
