Chapter 35- Friendship with my nemesis

Start from the beginning

"True, still highly unlikely a lady like yourself would know such things..." he continued to whisper softly. "but I would say that not everything you know may be the truth. I don't need the First Sacrifice to do alchemy. Magic yes, but not alchemy. Actually, while hard for them, even the Sun Empire citizens can do alchemy."

I turned at him shocked at such an interesting revelation, but I let Cedric continue his explanation.

"Alchemy can be studied alone, though studying at the Tower would help one develop its skills to top quality..." he touched the rock he gave me and as if he had guessed my thoughts he warned "While one can do it, I would advise you against it, at least without a master. I did this one with my uncle's help and even then it backfired a little. I am pretty sure the Duke got the warning as well as me..." he said before taking my arm again and leading me again back to our way.

"Can I keep it?" I asked him, sure that my eyes were shining with excited splendor.

"Hahahahah.... yes of course. Though I should warn you that it no longer works." He told me in a gentle way.

I gave a small look at the rock and noticed a lack of shine from it.

My mind wandered on the endless possibilities until I saw our shining (that it could blind someone) carriage. I looked up to see Wolff help Jenni in the carriage, but before was my turn, Cedric stopped me.

"Lulu... Can I be your friend?" Asked Cedric with rosy cheeks and a shaky voice, looking way too adorable.

Geez... writer, you make my life harder...

"Your highness, before I can give you an answer, please tell me something." I requested, turning myself to him and taking his small hand. "Last time we met, you told me you only use magic in the Sun Empire when is important, but you used it when we had tea at Princess Odette's palace and even now. Though it was not a spell, it was still a dark art... So...Why did you do it?"

Cedric's eyes shone beautifully under the sunset that started on the horizon. No precious stones were able to mimic such shine no matter how much expensive or magical they were. It was incredible.

"I did it because it was important. You are important."  He said with a  voice warm as the sun.

Wolff came to Cedric's side after leaving Jenni on the carriage. His face with a wicked smile, surely he had been listening to his prince's request.

"Very well... I accept it as long I can be friends with Wolff as well." I said with a matter-of-fact voice, which prevent any protest.

Not that there was going to be any, they were too surprised for that... soon after embarrassment came to Wolff and it was his turn to get rosy cheeks. Too cute.

Seriously writer?! Can you have them a little less cute? Would it hurt you to do such?!

"Sure! I hadn't expected less from the great Lady Lucreatia. Better, miss Lulu!!" Joked Cedric in good humor and happy with the arrangement.

He kissed my hand before leading me to the carriage steps and in there he whispered as soft as a small breeze.

"Write us. I am sure you know were to leave the letters." With a final look, he backed away and looked on as I went to sit at my place in the carriage. He stayed like that until our horses pulled the carriage away and I no longer could see him.

Jenni, curious and worried, questioned me endlessly about the events with the ladies and the conversation I had with prince Cedric. I mumbled some words and stayed quiet the rest of the trip.

There was so much to think about anyway.

Arriving home, we were received with hopeful smiles until they saw our faces, or my face to be more correct. Then all our employees were filled with worry. And in Fanny's case, with tears.

I let her follow me to my room and when Jenni had gone to pick a special holy ointment, I turned to Fanny dead serious.

"Fanny don't cry! It doesn't hurt and besides, I need your help with something." This stopped her crying for a while, and she came closer, curious.

"I need you to help me find books about alchemy." I said with a big grin on my face as I grabbed her shoulders.

"Oh, my lady.... you kill me with these ideas!" And she then returned to her cry, this time, however, for a different reason.

I really do have to help her get used to this...

They are friends!!!! And now Lulu is interested in alchemy! I would say she is going to have some adventures with that (in Act II and Act III)

Poor Fanny...

What did you think of this chapter? Doesn't the First Sacrifice sound scary? what are your theories?

I can tell you something... next chapter (and last of the Arc I) will focus on another character... can you guess which?
