broken hearts pt.4

Start from the beginning

A brief spark from Vajra snapped me back to my senses. I sucked in a deep breath and focused back on Aiden.

He had been chained to a tree and a tall looming figure stood over him. Aiden and the figure were exchanging some words, but I couldn't make them out. The figure then screamed," This was supposed to work!" I frowned, what was supposed to work?

it was only when I saw the figure draw out a weird knife and inch towards Aiden, my instincts took over. In the blink of an eye, I had Vajra turn into a bow and fire an arrow, barely missing the figure by a few inches and imbed itself into the tree. With my bow drawn, my back straight, and my face is the best 'intimidating face' i could muster,

I thought I looked super cool.

Then I remembered I was wearing iron man pyjamas.

I didn't feel that cool anymore.

The figure spun around to face me, and my suspicions were confirmed.

It was Shukra.

Annoyance was clearly written all over his face, and his ice-blue eyes were still as cold. A bitter taste coated my tongue, after all, he had cursed me before.

"You" Shukra snarled.

unlike him, I didn't have time to swap pleasantries.

"How are you here?"

Shukra smiled, his crooked black teeth glinting dangerously.

" you thought I was gone? You only stole my memories, Pandava scum. left me in a void of rage and confusion, with only chipped memories of my past. But don't worry, I remember everything about our little... interaction."

We slowly circled each other. Vajra was now a spear.

" So, you decided to get revenge by cursing that doofus?" I couldn't see Aiden's face, but I could imagine that he looked offended.

"Don't lie, dear. I know how much pain you've been caused because I cursed him. "

I flinched.

" I was planning to get my memories back my feeding of the pain of the one who took them away, but killing you will be enough for my revenge"

Shukra lunged at me, A murderous glint in the ice-blue of his eyes"

His knife clashed against my spear; sparks flew in the air.

Shukra was bigger and stronger than me and he used that as his advantage. He put his entire weight on me as I struggled to hold back his knife. My heels dug into the ground; Sweat beaded my forehead. I could hear the clanking of chains as Aiden struggled to break free.

Shukra's knife inched ever so close to my neck, But I had a trick up my sleeve.

Lightning coursed through Vajra and flowed into the metal of the knife shocking Shukra. He jumped back and winced in pain. His eyes burning in murderous rage. My shoulders heaved and I was panting furiously, but we charged at each other again. This time his movements were fast, His knife

touching Vajra only for a split second before he struck again, Not allowing me to shock him.

Shukra kept on striking blow after blow after blow, pushing me further back each time. He kicked me in the stomach, and I banged against a tree. I fought for consciousness, my head hurt like hell and Vajra had clattered out of my hand. He walked to me, filling every word with menace as he spoke," You took what I had left of her. I don't even remember her face, her voice, The sound of her laugh. You took everything from me. I promised you freedom from the past, to make new memories, and you turned it all down. Taking away everything, I had left of her. You are a monster, Arundhati Shah. After all, you are the daughter of the sleeper"

Guilt stabbed me; I had done an awful thing. But I knew my answer.

"You have suffered Shukra, but that doesn't mean you can make others suffer too. You can't force your 'help' on others, I did what I had to do. You forced me to do it"

Shukra was standing above now, his knife held high. "Goodbye, Pandava scum" He whispered as he struck down, But the knife stopped inches away from my face. Shukra eyes widened as he looked down at the stab wound, Vajra was sticking right through his abdomen, as blood flowed down in streams.

He fell to the ground, his life slowly fading from his eyes. No matter what he had done to me, Shukra was carrying the weight of guilt on his shoulders, something I could relate to. I silently prayed for him to be free of that burden in his dying moments, as his body went limp and his absurd knife clattered out of his hand. The end for Shukra was here.

I shakily got up to my feet, my head hurt, my stomach hurt, and my back hurt. great. " Vajra, free the grandma" I said

I was sure that if I hadn't just saved his life, He would've insulted me back.

The chains slumped to the ground; Aiden was free. An awkward silence settled over us, none of us were sure of what to say, we hadn't seen each other in six months, and our last interaction had not been good, to say the least.

I cleared my throat," Soo... you were cursed?"

"Um, yeah" Aiden replied while constantly fidgeting with Shadowfax.

I started speaking again before there was more awkward silence between us. "You were missing for a long time, Aiden. Malini was worried out of her mind, We couldn't call the police because these were otherworldly matters. I'm pretty sure Brynne will kill you once you get home"

A small laugh escaped Aiden's lips " Yah, she probably will."

Aiden finally looked up to meet my eyes, and I could see the guilt and worry shining in them. "Listen, I am so sorry Aru, I didn't want to leave you, I'm so sorry for everything, I-I couldn't risk something happening to you."

"Something was going to happen to me?" I asked. I thought he was the one who was cursed.

"Yeah, The curse said that if I stayed with you any longer you would start losing parts of your memory until your very essence crumbles. "

Everything Aiden had done seemed fitting now, he hadn't left because he didn't love me, rather because he was worried. it seemed so much easier to forgive him now, but, despite what id learned before I couldn't stop my anger from coming out.

I crossed my arms and said, " Well, I'm still mad at you, even though it technically wasn't your fault, it was terrible once you left, We were all freaking out about where you could've gone to, and you left me, left everyone. It was a feeling I never want to experience again. "

Aiden's face twisted into a small smile, as he said," I'll promise it'll never happen again, okay? "

Aiden took my hand and whispered," I missed you, Shah"

"I missed you too" I replied, "Though it was nice not hearing Nature documentaries blaring at 3 am"

Aiden's cheeks coloured and I burst out laughing, Aiden joining in too.

My stomach was hurting from laughing so hard, but I managed to say, "Come on, Let's get you home"

We laughed and talked on the way, and yes, I did bring up Ashley and how he was now taken. He'd seemed offended when he found out I'd seen his diary, but considering that I saved his life, I thought it was quite rude.

When the potatoes and Malini were informed about me heroically saving Aiden, Brynne was not happy, and neither was Malini (Aiden had been missing for a long time) I'll spare you the details.

Today I opened the Aru Shah tree of wishes book, and the first thing I saw was Opal's name.

my entire day was ruined.
