Chapter 42 ~ If Only...

Start from the beginning

"I NEED TO GO!"

She cut off the phone running to where her desk was. She shoved the phone into one of her coworkers' earning no complaints as they could see the anger mixed with worry and determination in her face.

She grabbed her lab coat swinging it through her arms and grabbed her bag running out of the hospital not even bothering to check with her supervisor. She reached for her phone searching through her contact looking for her daughter's contact.

It rang once

Twice.

Three times

Four times.

Five.

No answer.

She kept repeating the word, "No." breathlessly running to her car. She fumbled with her car keys eventually shoving it into the keyhole and began another stress of fumbling with it to start the car.

She waited impatiently for the car to warm up once again taking out her phone to call yet another person.

This time it rang once before they picked up.

"OH! Darling! How nice of you to give me a call. I was wondering what was taking you so long."

"CUT THE CRAP! Where is she!"

"Where is who? I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about."

"Your the one who didn't follow our deal. You brought this onto yourself."

"WHERE IS MY DAUGHTER YOU BITCH!!"

"Ouch. Is that any way to treat your best friend," the person let out a deep dramatic sigh, "However we weren't the ones who did it. This time."

"I know your lying! Tell me where you took her!"

"You should really be careful what you tell others. They just might get...," there was a pause, "Neglected."

"What the hell are you going on about!"

"Ta-ta now"

"CHI-!"

The phone got cut off before she was able to finish her sentence. M/N slammed her hand down on her steering wheel in frustration causing the car to beep very loudly in the not-so-empty hospital parking lot.

She laid her head on the wheel. What was she supposed to do now? Her daughter, the one she worked so hard to get, was gone. She loves her so much. She hated to admit it but she loved Y/N more than Kean.

However, now she lost both kids. Y/N was missing. Kean was ignoring her. She was alone. Tears started streaming down her face. The makeup she wore running down her face making it a mess. She gripped tightly onto her wheel as if it would somehow calm her down. Each thought in her said she should have never left Y/N alone.

If only she had made a different decision that day.

If only she had picked a job closer to home.

If only this...

If only that...

The list of things she could have done differently could go on.

She wiped away her tears roughly from her face trying to compose herself. She looked at herself in her car mirror and boy did she look like a train wreck. She ignored it finally driving out of the hospital. All the way home she couldn't stop thinking about if Y/N was okay or not. She drove all the way home in a complete daze. The roads were practically muscle memory but it was still surprising she didn't end up in a car crash.
