You don't want to go out of your way to mislead the reader or outright lie to them, but you do want to keep them on their toes. Unexpected plot twists will take them by surprise and reinvigorate their interest in the story.

Plot twists is simply like not talking to your girlfriend for a couple of days because you're preparing for something, to the point that she thought you don't love her anymore. Then one day, when everything's settled already, you asked for her ring finger to get married. It's really unexpected, right? The girl thought something's wrong, but you just did that for her not to expect your surprise.

Ganoon din ang plot twist, ito iyong mga pangyayaring hindi talaga inaasahan ng mga mambabasa o kahit mga nanonood sa pelikula. Minsan kasi ang isang istorya, nagiging boring dahil sa isang bagay lang naka-focus, though it's not wrong especially if you're really focusing on the main plot. But then put twists too, to make it more interesting, to make it more suspenseful. Alam n'yo 'yong tipong hindi ka na ginaganahan o naiintriga dahil walang ibang pasabog. Kumbaga sa adobo, paulit-ulit na lang iyong recipe, try mo kayang lagiyan ng itlog? Mayroon ding matamis na adobo imbis na maalat. Iyong mga ganitong tipo na talagang hindi pa nababasa ng iba sa ibang libro.

Siyempre, hindi naman porque twist e basta na lang na surprise, gawin mo ring unique, gawin mong unforgettable. Kasi may mga twist ding cliché na, so think of your own recipe, mag-eksperimento ka kung kailangan. What I mean is, explore mo rin iyong plot mo. Be careful, kasi imbis na maging plot twist nagiging loophole. Ano kayang p'wede maging twist nito sa gitna? Sa huli? P'wede ko kaya itong ilagay kapag nahanap na iyong ano? Mapapanganga ba sa gulat ang readers ko kung ganito ang mangyayari? In my own perspective, I usually put the twists in the end, iyong mga 3-5 chapters na lang gano'n, in that case mas nakaka-shock din kasi siyempre patapos na, hopeless na 'yong readers then in the end-boom!

'Yong feeling na nalulungkot ka na kasi tragic pala ang ending then bandang chapter 38 kunwari, biglang may surprise si author! Mali ang iniisip ni reader. In short ulit, plot twist is something that rebuts the readers' conclusion/s, it contradicts their thoughts and ideas about the next happenings, and that's why it makes the reader keep going because they're intrigued on the next happenings. Mahalaga ang plot twists lalo na kung gusto mong maging extraordinary talaga ang story mo, kung gusto mong hindi na makalilimutan ng readers iyon story kasi grabehan sa pasabog ang author. It is a development kasi na too far sa expectations and assumptions nila.

EXAMPLE (huwag gayahin, common na):
- Ang bida ay isang spree killer, iyong killer na mabilis pumatay ngunit malinis gumalaw. Halos araw-araw may napapatay siya o kaya every other day. Then sa huli puwedeng plot twist diyan lahat pala ng pinapatay niya ay masama, he/she wanted to reduce bad people on Earth. Iyong tipong bwisit na bwisit ka na habang nagbabasa kasi he/she always kill then sa climax o kaya sa ending malalaman mong hindi naman pala sobrang sama ng intensyon niya, he/she has reasons to do so.

Always remember, make sure that it's a plot twist not a loophole.
