a/n i've decided to repost the first chapter in two parts, because it was so long!

saturday comes around after all. today is the day he is going to babysit lavender. this is maybe even more nerve wracking than one of their shows. jack texted him last night, saying they would come over around 11 AM. but he'd woke up at seven, to make sure his house was perfectly child proof. which he found out, was not at all. there were dog toys all over the floor, and boxes were balancing on the dining table. he doesn't want to find himself driving lavender to the hospital.

but when that was done, jack and javender aren't coming for another hour. daniel kills his time by playing with kobe and scrolling through twitter. but an hour of twitter is toxic for every person, is it eleven yet?

the sound of the doorbell makes daniel's heart jump a little. Is this really a good idea? yes. he tells himself. he's a grown man. one day he will have his own kids and he won't be able to run away from them either. besides, he isn't going to blow off jack now.

"hey! look lav, it's uncle dani!"

lav was smiling at him, and he notices jack's smile is twice as wide as normal, too. that will probably have to do with the cute girl he's balancing on his arm.

"hey lav! wow, i really like your dress! who's on it?"

"peppa!"

he swears that jack is obsessed with his own daughter. who gets so smiley about a one-year-old talking about peppa pig? the one-year-old herself seems to have been captivated by kobe. jack puts her down and she starts petting him. okay, maybe this is a little cute after all.

"so, are you excited for your friend's wedding?"

"hell yeah! it was about time; they've been together since tenth grade or something."

"wow that's long. couldn't be me!"

it makes him so happy to see jack laughing again. when lavender is with him, his anxiety seems to disappear, and that's the best thing ever.

"is it just you and lav today, or are chris and tyler home too?"

"no, they're in portland for a few days. they wanted to visit some old friends I believe."

"why didn't you go with them?"

"because of the band of course. we had all this promo last week and i found it quite nice to have the house to myself all weekend actually."

"yeah, that makes sense."

the two guys are chatting on daniel's doorstep. it's kind of weird though, because lavender is there with them, the vibe is so different than normal. but it's not a bad thing, because lav is so amazing.

when jack picks lavender up again, she starts to protest. and kobe start whining too.

"hey lav, you can play with kobe all day okay? daddy has to go now. but i'll be back tomorrow! be good to uncle dani okay?"

jack gives lavender another kiss and hands her to daniel. he can see that jack's struggling to say goodbye. which makes sense, because he has to do it so often. but he'll see her again tomorrow morning and he's going to have a lot of fun at his friend's wedding.

"have fun bro! lav, say bye dada!"

"dada"

he waves one more time and off he goes. having the time of his life at a wedding.
