Since the day they met in preschool Jennifer and Spencer had been the best of friends.

Spencer was sitting alone during play time like usual he was reading an easy reader chapter book seeing how that's all the school held. He'd have to talk to his mom later about bringing his own books to school, JJ was playing with the kitchen set hosting yet again another tea party which everyone wanted to be invited to. That afternoon the three year old blonde decided to skip out on the party and join the strange boy in the corner he never talked to anyone and always kept his head in a book. Books she didn't even believe he could read...

"Hi! I'm JJ who are you?"

To took Spencer a moment to realize who she was talking too, he ignored her but when she didn't go away he looked up. "I...I'm Spencer."

"It's nice to meet you Spence, why are you alone?"

"I don't have anyone to be with." He stated bluntly it surprised him when JJ sat down beside him.

"Are you really reading that book?"

"Yes I am."

"You're fibbing, we're too young to read." She pouted crossing her arms giving the brunette a disappointing look.

"No I'm not! I can read this book and every sign in this room as well as the publication notes at the front of the book." He stated.

"The publi- what?"

"Never mind you don't even know what it is."

"You're a big meanie Spence!"

"It's Spencer."

"Spence, Spencey, Spence, Spence!"

"You are so annoying!"

JJ huffed getting up from her spot and marched over to the bookshelf. The picked up every book in arms reach then walked back over to the 'meanie' she dropped the books at his feet then sat back down next to him in the corner.

"If you're so smart then read these to me." JJ demanded.

And he did, every last book in the preschool including ones she brought from home. Eventually they built a friendship on top of the hatred towards each other. They had play dates and birthday parties together as their birthday's were two days apart July 8th and July 10th JJ being the oldest. Spencer became part of the Jareau family Rosaline and Max (JJ's older siblings) found (and still do) find him odd, he couldn't catch a football or play double Dutch but they were impressed at his ability to 'help' them with their English homework. JJ's younger sister Gillian was quickly smitten with him every moment she was with Spencer Gillian would be glued to his hip, holding his hand and babbling about life, but he always listened even when she was ten months old and everything sounded like mouth bubbles. Spencer would stay with the Jareau's on Diana's bad days his father would drive him over in the middle of the night and the small boy would be welcomed into the house. He wouldn't eat the ice cream Mr. Jareau would offer or watch a movie that Mrs. Jareau suggested he would climb the stairs and enter the room which held JJ and Gillian, he would climb into JJ's bed and fall asleep. Each night he was over it would always be like that the boy wouldn't talk or even acknowledge anyone even the summers JJ spent at soccer camp Spencer would climb into her empty bed and fall asleep peacefully. They were there for him when Will Reid left his struggling wife and gifted son, Mr. Jareau always said;"A cowardly man has no right to this world." Which resulted him being smacked by his wife. That summer Spencer spent many long nights in Gillian and JJ's room which waved a red flag to sixteen and seventeen years old Rosaline and Max who were quickly silenced by their mother.
