But fortunately, Jane has a talent that she frequently used in her past world to survive. And that is.
Lying.
"Well, I recently bought a potion with me because today I'll work my bones out 24/7. You see, maid work is a hard job no? While working you certainly don't feel pain because you are in the zone but at the end of the day when you're done your body feels like shit and cramped.
If you're asking me why I'm in the garden at night, well that is because recently there are some bothersome squirrels and raccoons throwing garbage everywhere in the garden and ruining the plants at night so I have come to check.
At first, I thought you are a raccoon and is about to catch you but... I saw you bloodied on the ground and I have no choice but to use my potion to treat you since I can't just ignore you."
The black beast looked at her with suspicion but Jane didn't care and just formed a bitter expression while remembering the shit ton of things she needs to do to survive in her past world. And now, she also needs to do a shit ton of crap to survive in the upcoming war... Her face crumpled even more at the horrifying thought.
'Shit, just thinking about it makes me not want to do it but I have to do it so I could live a peaceful life.'
The black beast saw her crumpled and bitter expression and concluded that what she said might be true. He now thought about the hardships of the maids that his mother used to read for him in storybooks and started to agree with Jane even more. He is now fully convinced and nodded his head a few times. Jane didn't notice it at asked straight to the point.
"Hey black beast, why are you in that state yesterday? What happened?"
The black beast frowned at her and talked in an annoyed tone.
"Don't call me that."
"Then what should I call you?"
"T-that, I don't know..."
"Wait, you don't have a name?"
"I-I needed to grow up first to get a name! It is said that gods would personally name us if we gain an achievement that nobody else can...."
"Ho...."
Jane look astonished while looking at the black beast who looked embarrassed. She didn't know that gods cherished legendary beasts, it wasn't mentioned in the novel. And because of this, she concluded that not everything written in the novel is a piece of complete information. But then she started to wonder about something. She then rubbed her chin and asked in confusion.
"It's weird."
"Huh? What's weird? And why are you looking at me like that?"
"Well, it is surprising that gods didn't acknowledge you yet even though yesterday you are still bravely hanging onto life while on the verge of death. Honestly, if I am a god I would've named you right away for your bravery."
The black beast looked at me with surprise and stuttered.
"Y-you think so?"
"Hmm? Yeah, I don't understand why they didn't name you yet. They might be busy or just blind the way they ignored you almost dying."
"T-then..."
The black beast hesitated for a moment before continuing to speak.
"W-what would you name me then?"
Silence filled the room. Jane looked at the black beast with wide eyes before answering in a dumbfounded expression.
"...Am I a god?"
"I shouldn't have asked."
The black beast averted his gaze while his tone has a mixture of embarrassment and annoyance. Jane crossed her arms while looking at the black beast. She then thought that the black beast must've wanted a name so she patted his head and said.
"I'll think about it."
"What?"
"I said I'll think about it. I can't just give you a shitty name out of a rush so I'll think about it. And besides, you deserve it anyway. Good job on surviving and hanging on yesterday, you were really brave."
'Really, he's really brave. If I was bloodied to that extent in my childhood, I might have given up already and let the lord take me to the heavens.'
The black beast looked at her for a while before mumbling.
"Whatever, I don't need a name it if comes from you."
"I'm still gonna do it because I can't just call you 'hey' or 'you' right?"
"You think I'll stick with you? Your imagination must've gone wild."
Jane scratched the back of her head and sighed.
'Well, it's true though. Now that he is healed he no longer needs to stay here. Well, if he wants to leave then that's a shame but I can't stop him because the moment I do that he'll probably incinerate me to dust.'
"Anyway, tell me why are you in that state yesterday."
"I... Why should I tell you?"
The black beast frowned at me and his body slowly turned transparent. He must be using an invisibility spell, which could only be performed by highest-grade mages. He is truly a being loved by nature and mana. Jane saw the window opening and early morning winds started to come inside the room. Jane looked at the window for a while and thought:
'...He left.'
Jane felt disappointed and at the same time annoyed. She has to spend her salary just to buy a potion to save a legendary beast that just left out the window. Heck, it didn't even thank her for rescuing him. The only good side of this operation is the fact that one of the main damage dealers at the future war is now nonexistent.
Jane just kept repeating the good effects on the operation to keep a good mood and sighed. She then washed and wore her maid outfit. She then opened the door but ended up slamming it back shut.
Bang!
Jane breathes heavily while holding her chest as if she just had a heart attack. She then opened the door back again and peeked outside. And there she saw Finesse happily smiling at her while the maids gathered around her back with surprised expressions.
