"laye laye, baba Fade miolegba. Ọmọ tó ṣẹṣẹ wọ Ile ìwé lefe ran lo ṣe ọmọ-ọdọ níbìkan. Sẹyìn lẹ ṣàn owo ile ìwé ẹ́ ní" Fade heard her mom scream from inside and she wondered what was going on. [Translation: Never ever, Fade's Dad. I can't take that. A child that just entered school that you want to send to go and do house help in someone's house. Are you the one paying her school fees?]

"Iwọ l'omo yen oh. Nkan t'emi monipe ọmọ mi ni Fade, emi déni baba è. Nkan toba wùnmi dẹni máa fi ṣe. Emi ti gba owó nitemi oh. Mode ti sofun ọgá mi yen pe tobatidi Saturday, máa mú wa fun'ra mi" Her father fired back and Fade's heart dropped. [Translation: It's you that know that one oh. What I know is that Fade is my child and I'm her father. I will do whatever I want with her. I've collected money and I've told that my boss that when it's Saturday, i will bring her myself]

She was the one her parents were talking about and the only thing she could make out from the conversation is that her father wants her to go and serve as house help somewhere. Tears clouded her vision fast and she wiped them away slowly. Her mother doesn't deserve to have this kind of monster as a husband.

"Anipe, Emi oh gba nitemi. Eni teba ti gba owó lọwọ eh lati mu ọmọ t'emi wa, e jee lo da owo pada. Torípé kolosi ibí kankan" Her moither argued and Fade's hope resurged. If her mum could stand for her like that, there's a probability that she won't go again. [Translation: I said I didn't agree. Anybody that you've collected money from that you will bring my own daughter, better go and return their money. Because my daughter is going no where]

The next thing she heard shattered her hope. Her father slapped her mother hard across her face. Her mother screamed and Fade bit her lips in sadness. Her mother was going to be beaten for her. Her little sister, Keji ran out and Fade picked her up. She rocked the little girl forth and back while she shook her head slowly to clear the tears. Her father was going to win this argument.

Fade couldn't stand the screams again so she walked away with her little sister and they took a walk to wherever their legs led them.

It was around an hour later that Fade decided to return back home. When she entered their compound and she saw her father sitting by the door and his pankere was beside him, she knew she was doomed.

Morenikeji runned towards him in glee and he picked her up. He threw her up twice before he pushed her inside and he turned his attention to her.

"Nibo loti nbọ Fadekemi?" He asked with every word dripping of menace and Fade gulped visibly. Doom was an understatement of what she's about to go through. [Translation: where are you coming from Fadekemi?]

She couldn't run, it was going to be worse than what she's initially meant to go through. She knelt down and she crawled towards him. He picked up the thin cane and he flexed it for a while before he descended on her beating her everywhere.

*************

Fade clutched the leather bag that held all her belongings close to her body while she stood beside her father waiting for bike under the scorching sun.

"Fadekemi, if you like go and be acting like bastard when you get there. I will show you pepper. You know the money they're sending is what we will use to feed at home. Just consider this as a little sacrifice for your family" Her father adviced and she nodded her head.  Not that she could say anything else, her whole body is still filled with fresh injuries from the last beating.

Her father hailed a bike and he stopped in front of them and she looked back to where her mother was holding her junior sister close. Morenikeji was in tears and her mom was close to tears too. She looked away from them and she climbed the back without waving bye.

Her mother caused this all by staying with such a monster even after everything he does to her. Now she's going to be starting her life again with a new family. She has heard horrific stories of what people do to their house helps and she doesn't even know what she's going to  experience in her own case.

She doesn't even know if she will ever step her feet in to Elite College again or if she was ever going to go to school again. Heaven knows best and he's the master planner.
