In my mind, Sirius and Reg are forced to learn French as kids. Sometimes I like to think that Remus taught himself as a distraction from his lynthocrapy, and Lily learned from Remus. They talk French and no one understands them and it's great. Eventually James picks up a couple phrases and they plan pranks in French. Other times I think that Siri can rant for hours and no one but Reggie understands him.
- Remus knows French he taught himself from books to distract himself. He teaches Lily and Sirius 'teaches' James. James tells Lily things that he thinks are small talk and stuff, but are really things like 'Je suis tres ennuyeux' and 'Je ne comprom pas'. Lily turns purple from trying not to laugh.
- Remus comments on Minnie's lessons with really dry humor under his breath in French after Sirius gets disowned to make him feel better and Sirius can't keep it together and McGonagall is like ?!! and Remus 100% throws Sirius under the bus, but Minnie knows what Remus is doing and just halfheartedly pretends to scold Sirius while holding back a smile at the cuteness because she ships it.
- One day in DADA, Sirius' boggart is his parents but they're insulting him in French - that's their way of being gits while seeming really nice- so no one in the class understands but Remus does and they forgot that Lily does too, so she becomes closer to Sirius and the marauders that way, because she and Remus comfort Sirius in the astronomy tower later. And then Sirius tells them that things like that have actually happened at his house and Remus and Peter have to stop James and Lily from going and murdering the Blacks in a cold blood.
^ James sprung to his feet went he saw Lily storming out of the tower, her hair falling out of her bun, a murderous gleam of anger flashing in her eyes. "What-"
"We're murdering Orion and Walburga Black" she said without stopping, her wand clutched tightly in her hand.
James started after her. "K. Let's go."
^I can see that happening far to clearly
- Remus put a language charm on Sirius so he can only speak French and Remus has to translate. So Remus puts some random stuff in place of whatever Sirius is actually saying, and Lily is laughing her head off because she knows exactly what colorful words are spewing from Siri's mouth while Remus is like 'oh yea he says he put your transfiguration notes in the Hufflepuff common room James'
So here are some random headcannons I came up with! I might use some of them to write oneshots some time.
