AMBER P.O.V. –

I gave Aug one last peck on the lips as we got out the car and headed for the hearing room. He held the door for me, and led me down the hall to where it was.

Stacy who was sitting on the floor outside the door rushed to hug both of us.

“I’mma wait out here.” She folded her arms.

“No Stacy go to class we’re good.” I told her.

“No, I wanna be here so if they don’ let him back in, I can whoop all they asses.”

“Stac go to class. Like Amb said, we good.” Aug reassured her.

“You sure?” She looked at us concerned.

“Yes.” I smiled and rubbed her shoulder. “Thank you for the support tho. We appreciate it mama.”  I hugged her one last time.

She then turned to Aug and hugged him super tight. “I love you bro.” She kissed his cheek.

“Love you too.” He kissed hers back.

We waved to her as she made her way down the hall and off to class.

“I see you brought an Attorney this time.” A nicely dressed white man came over to us.

“Just concede now and save us all, this waste of time.”  He extended his hand to me. “I’m Dylan McDermott. The Dental Boards Attorney.”

I gave him a fake smile, then turned and walked in the door. Aug following behind,  leaving him and white ass hand standing there looking stupid.

I set up my brief case on the right table designated for me and Aug. Onika sent me a text telling me she was here. I told her to wait outside.

“I’m going to introduce to myself to the board as a form of courtesy.” I told Aug then went up to the head table where they were and shook each of their hands.

This time Dan was up there, he gave me a wink as I went to sit down.

Dylan, the other attorney strolled in, opening his briefcase on the opposite table. Then went up there to chit-chat with the Board Members. They laughed and talked, like old friends.

“Never pay that any attention.” I told August. “He’s doing that to intimidate us. He wants us to know that he has a personal connection with the people on the board. Make it seems like he has the upper hand. When playing cards do you show the other person your hand?”

“No.”

“Exactly. Insecure Attorneys, which he is, like flaunting their hand. But I’m always discreet, because it allows them to underestimate you. He thinks I don’t know anybody up there, but you know I know Dan, but I didn’t make it obvious. The less they know, the easier you can throw them off. Thus, giving us an advantage. Was he the attorney from last time?”

“Yeah.”

Dylan made his way over to his table looking at us and smiling, letting out a slight laugh.

“It’s all tactic. All tactic. You have to ignore people like him.” I looked through some of my argument.

August was very jittery. He sat with his hands folded on the table, but I saw his hands shaking. I wanted to kiss my baby and tell him it would be okay to calm him down, but I couldn’t.

I wanted to keep it professional. Didn’t want to give these people any excuse to rule against us, by thinking we might be a couple. That wasn’t against the rules, but it might prejudice their thinking. This 33 year old Attorney with this 23 year old student.
