(Y/N POV)

You got things to figure out.

"Why would I be mad?" I mumbled, "Peter, you're scaring me."

The boy ran a hand through his hair, obviously flustered. The events of this past week alone left me more confused than I had ever been, and I couldn't tell what was real or not.

"I'm sorry," he said softly, "I don't think it's the right time for you to know."

"Then when is the right time?"

"I don't know! I'm not even sure I should even go through with it!"

"Peter," I whispered, grabbing his hand, "you can tell me."

He looked at me, his eyes glazed with guilt, and he pressed his forehead against mine. I squeezed his hand, hoping it would bring him some sort of comfort, but it didn't seem to change his mind in the slightest.

"I can't," he said, "let's talk about this later."

"Peter-"

"I said later," he said, getting up and walking towards the windows, "I'm sorry."

I frowned, my eyelids drooping in disappointment, and got up to find my suitcase. Shuffling through the mess Loki had previously made, I pulled out the gift I had been waiting to give him.

"Here," I said, walking up from behind me, "Happy birthday."

He took the box from my hand, pulling back the wrapping paper I spent last night wrapping.

"You didn't have to do this," he said, "Y/N, this is amazing!"

"You like it?"

"I love it," he beamed, popping the camera out from the packaging. He flipped open the viewfinder, and faced it towards me.

"Smile!" he exclaimed, hitting the record button.

I covered my face and blushed, embarrassed at how awful I looked today. Since I woke up so early to talk to Loki, I never really had time to get ready.

"I'm going to go change," I said, looking down at my black leggings and shirt, "I need to look decent on your special day."

"You look fine, you don't have to go through the trouble."

"I'm still going to change," I said, swatting my hand at him, "just keep playing with your camera."

"Okay!"

I grabbed a sundress from my bags, and locked myself in the bathroom. My eyes were puffy with exhaustion, and I looked bloated and pale. Rubbing my eyes, I turned on the sink and splashed my face with water.

"Bucky's sake," I complained, the excess water landing on my shirt, "today is not a good day."

I slipped into the dress quickly, and pinched the sides of my cheeks to bring color back into them. I was never really a make-up person, so I didn't have anything to cover up the racoon bags under my eyes.

As I reached for the door handle, I paused, thinking over the conversation Peter and I had earlier. My curiosity pleaded to know the answer, but I knew when Peter said it wasn't the right time, it probably wasn't. He was way better at the emotional stuff than I was, so I had to trust him on this one.

Even though I knew whatever he was hiding wasn't good.

Why else would he be scared to tell me? We were open books with each other, so hearing him be so closed off was strange. I sighed and walked out of the bathroom, making a beeline for my phone.

"Do you want to walk around on the fields?" Peter said when he saw me, "I could get some great footage!"

"Sure, that could be fun," I mumbled.

Surprisingly, I had no notifications on my phone. Not even a text from Happy. I frowned, and tucked the device into the pockets of my dress.

"Ready to go?" I asked.

"Yep!"

"Great," I remarked, grabbing his hand.

"What should we get for lunch?" I said, not expecting an answer.

I was laying on my back in the field, goats milling around behind me. Peter didn't hear me, he was too busy jabbering off to the camera.

"So we're in a Wakandan field!" he said, "and next to me is billy the goat!"

I smiled weakly, turning my gaze back to the sky. As much as I feared it, I knew Peter and I were growing apart. We didn't look like it, since we were almost inseparable, but we really were.

We didn't trust each other as much as before, and we were constantly going behind each other's backs.

"Peter, do you still love me?" I asked.

He didn't hear me.

"Oh," I sighed, closing my eyes, "you're too busy."

He didn't hear that either.
