Kayla

“Kayla, are you going to tell me what’s wrong?” Damion asks once more, letting out a sigh as he gazes at me with a drained and worried expression looming on his face. I continuingly stare ahead at the empty road, speedily driving off into the dark night as I disregard his question. I close my eyes for a split second as I lightly inhale before returning my eyes onto the road.

Damion lets out a troubled sigh as he leans his head against the window and gazes into the night. The car returns to its soundless atmosphere, only the humming sound of the engine to be heard along with the windscreen wipers wiping away the few splattering raindrops on the windscreen. My eyes begin to fill with tears as Rosie’s words arouse in my head, leading a single tear to fall from my eye. “Is it me?” Damion mumbles. I ignore his question but he continues, “Or is this one of your hormonal breakouts?”

“Just be quite Damion,” I softly initiate as I close my eyes for an instant, “Please.” Damion opens his mouth to protest but he reluctantly lets out a sigh as he returns his gaze outside of the window. We continue the remainder of our journey home in a deadly silence as I prepare what I’m going to say to Damion in my head. I imagine myself to be full of rage and to have a full blown argument, but I know in reality I’m just going to cry. I hate being hurt, it’s happened to me far too many times before and I’m not going to let it happen again.

Fifteen minutes later, I drive up towards our apartment and park the car outside, exiting it in silence and making my way inside as Damion trails along. As soon as we enter the apartment, Damion takes hold of my hand and turns me to face him, “Kayla, you have to tell me what’s wrong, you’ve got to stop ignoring me; if I’ve done something wrong then you’ve got to tell me,” he states, “I’m not physic, I can’t read your mind.”

I take a deep breath and clear my throat, trying to stable my voice as I ask, “Why didn’t you tell me about Rosie?” He freezes and lets his hand fall as he leans against the wall, letting out a stressed sigh and as he drives his hand through his blonde hair and closes his eyes. “Where you ever going to tell me?” I question.

“I was, but I just didn’t know how to,” he explains.

“But I told you everything about me, about my past relationships, my family, everything,” I say as my eyes begin to fill with tears, “Do you not trust me?”

“No, of course I do. I didn’t tell you because I didn’t even think that she was that important to mention.” I shake my head as I walk towards the bedroom and he quickly scurries behind me, “We broke up over a year ago, she means nothing to me now, you and the baby are my main priorities right now and I mean that,” he elucidates.

“Well you seem to mean a lot to her,” I grumble. As I’m making my way to the bedroom I ask, “When you were with her a couple of months ago, did you have sex?” Damion looks at me with a confused expression daunting upon his face as if I’m speaking another language, but then he lets out a groan as recognition dawns. I shake my head in disbelief and angrily begin to remove my dress as he comes and sits down on the edge of the bed.

“Look, I didn’t even know that you were pregnant then, I thought that I would never see you again, so-”

“Oh, I understand, I was just another one of your one night stands,” I bitterly say, gazing at him through the large mirror in front of me with rage and hurt filled in my eyes.

He looks at me, startled and confused, “No, of course not!”

“So you’ve never had a one night stand before? Was I your first one?”

“Okay, I’ve had a few before and I may have had a couple of flings now and then but you’re not just a girl that I slept with for the night, you’re more than that,” he says. He then lets out a groan as he buries his head inside of his hands, “I’m not going to list every single girl that I’ve slept with okay? Rosie and I dated for four years, yes she meant a lot to me and yes I loved her, but that’s all in the past,” he declares.
