I stared at the TV with a blank expression on my face. Only one word could describe the intensity of all the images on the screen: chaos. The new reporter anxiously spoke into the mic as you could see she gripped it tightly, her knuckles turning white.

I sighed and looked at my parents.

"We don't get involved with celebrities." I said, yet again. "The purpose of the time machine was to help our family and friends. You raised me my whole life believing that."

"Rose." My dad cleared his throat. " We are."

"Sofia went to that concert. And that crazed teenage boy isn't letting anyone out."

I stared at the ground. My cousin, who was like a sister to me, Sofia, was at the concert. I couldnt risk her getting hurt.

I couldn't imagine Sofia getting hurt. I had already chewed off my nails just thinking about it.

"That concert arena is full of hostages." My mom insisted.

"I don't see why you can't do this." I insisted. Not only was time traveling something I tried to avoid, but it was also something that was under a load of pressure. It wasnt just about me having little to no interest in One Direction, it was the fact that I was the only one who could help.

"Thirty minutes ago your mother was stuck in traffic. She wouldn't be able to make it to the venue in time." And I already knew the explanation for why my father couldn't do it. His leg was still injured from the last time he traveled.

I looked at my parents, long and hard. I thought about Sofia. I thought about teasing her before she went to the concert. Telling her going to a One Direction concert was a waste of time. I thought about her laughing and shaking it off. And I thought about how she never expected to be placed in a hostage situation all because some broken-hearted, ex boyfriend decided to shoot Harry Styles because his girlfriend broke it off with him before the concert.

I saw the desperation in my parent's eyes. And i also felt my own desperation.

"Are you sure im ready?" I asked, in a low toned voice.

They nodded. I sighed.

"Okay." I said. And without another word I headed towards the basement. I stomped off, as the TV light still flickered in the living room. The reporters voice only grew more anxious as the seconds went by. There was no time to waste. After someone died in the current time, there was no saving them. The only thing you could do was try to go back in time and fix things before it was too late.

My parents quickly followed after me and made sure I correctly fired up the time machine. The time machine wasn't some old telephone booth hooked up to red and blue wires like some movies might make it seem. The time machine was actually a cell phone. As the years passed on, my parents had developed a small device to disguise the time machine as a smart phone. Now, traveling is as easy as carrying a time machine around in your pocket.

I picked up the device and punched in the time. From the year, to the day, to the last second. I looked back at my parents and they nodded in approval.

"So I just press the call button?"

The nodded again.

"Be safe." My mother said, reaching out for my arm.

"I will."

"Whatever you do, don't let anyone touch the time machine but you." My dad said. I remembered all the times he said it during training. After every session of traveling he would always say those same words.

"I know, Dad." I groaned. All I wanted to do is to go back in time before the anxiety killed me. I stepped back and took one last look at my parents.

My dad gave me a thumbs up and returned it with a weak smile. Without glancing back, I pressed the call button.

In the blink of the eye, I was back in my room with Sofia. I looked at the time and it was 6:45 PM. Before the concert.

I looked at my nails, which were back to their normal square-oval shape, before they got chewed off.

"Are we leaving or what?" Sofia asked. Her voice made me smile.

"Um... yeah I guess." I said, remembering I still had to go save Harry and an arena full of soon-to-be hostages.

"Well come on, Rose! I have a concert to be at!" She said, tugging on my shirt. She stopped, then cocked her head from side to side.

"You seem so out of it. What's wrong?"

It was happening. She was going to notice I was traveling. My dad had always warned me not to show any signs of confusion that might get people to start asking questions. So I came up with an excuse.

"Sorry, after you made me listen to their latest song my brain kind of crashed."

"You're mean. It was not that bad."

"I think my ears are bleeding internally."

"Whatever, you just dont like that everyone likes them. If they weren't 'mainstream' or whatever you'd be all over them."

I rolled my eyes and got my keys. "Whatever you say. Let's go."

We drove to the venue, where people were packing inside of the building. After I dropped off Sofia, I went and parked my car. Inside the car, I put in the exact coordinates for the langitude and longitude location for backstage. My parents weren't able to transport and travel at the same time, so i had to transport when I had already traveled back.

I ended up inside of a bathroom. Thankfully, no one was using it, or else I would have had a lot of explaining to do.

I opened the door and the first thing I saw was a half-naked boy.

It was Harry Styles. He let out a yell.

"WHO ARE YOU!?!"
