"Mum, mum!!!" I panicked. All I could see was darkness. I felt something sticky on the side of my head; but asides that, I felt ok. I started smelling fuel and gas and everywhere felt too stuffy.
I couldn't die yet; I just couldn't. The pungent smell of blood filled my nostrils so bad that I felt like throwing up but it wasn't from me so who else?
Mum????? Are you OK? I asked. Still no response.
I was about to say something else when I heard the ambulance and I was dragged out. I heaved a sigh of relief as I saw my mum on a stretcher in the ambulance too before I closed my eyes and we were taken to the hospital.
I was kept in a separate room from my mum since my injuries were not so severe. I was allowed to see my mum after my head was all stitched up.
I walked in to hear all those beeping sounds you hear in the hospitals from their monitors to see my mum.
Her legs and hands were hung on different places and she was still breathing with the aid of their machine.
Tears stung my eyes as I looked at her once clear fair skin now decorated with injuries. Her face was terribly bruised and was now pale.
As I touched her, her fingers were lifeless and I felt weak immediately. I wanted her awake and smiling not on an hospital bed.
"Wake up mum! I love you" I whispered quietly.
As I continued looking at her, the door opened to reveal my dad. He ran to hug me as the our ,tears flowed freely.
Both of us lost in our own thoughts as we looked at her
As I looked on, I heard someone sniffing and I realized it was from my dad. I turned to see him mumbling some words with tears streaming down his face.
".......I don't want to lose you, I can't lose you yet....."
I didn't hear the rest of it as the monitors started beeping faster.
From that time everything was so hazy and slow as the doctors came in to when the most depressing news came to us
"I am so sorry, we lost her"
One word to describe how I felt, 'numb'

                ---------------------------

I looked towards my mum in the casket. This is the first and last time I would be seeing her since the doctor gave us the news.
My dad didn't want to delay the burial so its exactly one week after her death.
Seeing her lying there was the most heart wrenching thing I could ever imagine, the sight I saw is something that would forever be etched in my memory.
I saw her blue and lifeless. I touched her as the gasp left my mouth and my tears dropped like heavy rain drops. She was stone cold. That was the day my life changed. The day I realized I lost my mum to an accident and my once sweet dad to a man who is now a shadow of himself.
