later that night, as i'm wrapped in ashton's arms on the couch, the door bell rings. calum, who's looking for a movie makes no move to answer it. ashton is asleep. michael is in his room.
so, i pull away from ashton's embrace and make my way to the door. i open and see someone who a hoped to never see again looking nervously at me.
"jack," i say, surprised.
"can we talk?" he asks awkwardly.
"i don't think that's a good idea."
"please."
"if you don't leave i'll have calum kick your ass again."
he sighs. "i just want to apologize. i heard what happened and i realized it's probably all my fault."
"wait. who told you?" i asked, confused.
"michael texted me. it was kind of a 'you're such an asshole' message but he told me what happened and i'm sorry, luke. i didn't want this to happen."
"you, of all people, should know the smoking is an addiction."
"i know," he mumbles sadly, looking at the ground. "goodbye, luke."
"goodbye, jack." i close the door and turn to see calum standing there with a small smile.
"i'm proud."
