just this gone last year
somewhere on the calendar
my fingers lost their grip
over the essence of childhood
for i was effervescing my way
into the bubbling dreams
of crazy and insane youth
and it was the most hopeful
days of my dishevelled life
and i can still silently swear
with tightly crossed fingers
that i had never kissed
the warm sunlight more
and i had never showered
with truly magical water
until this gone last year
somewhere on the calendar
that robbed me of my
purely chaste innocence
and gifted my soul with
something named 'insanity'
that made me feel invincible
and i kept trippin' my way
over the harmony of
black 'n' white piano keys
into a world of galaxies
for i had yet not learned
how to traipse gracefully
like the more experienced
so i kept trippin' 'n' trippin'
until i came to realize that
i would always be trippin'
for while i was kissin'
the warmth of the sunlight
the sun had robbed me
of my sparkling eyesight
thus renderin' me blind
into the face of mad youth
and now i can hear that
the foamy effervescence
of the years going by
while all i do is sit here
in the darkness gifted by
the warmth of the sunlight
just this gone last year
somewhere on the calendar
when my fingers lost grip
over the essence of childhood

Author's Note

Listening to 'High Hopes' by Kodaline. *-*

This is a free verse poem about growing up. How it seems a magical ambient in the beginning and turns up gifting you nostalgia for your childhood when you realize that growing up was a trap. How the years escape you like the effervescence of gas bubbles in a soda can. How it can't be undone. How in persuit of light, you end up going blind and being a hostage of unfulfilled dreams. :')❤

Did you like this poem? It's not my usual style to keep writing without any break but I gave it a try today. Leave your feedback in the comments. =)♥

Much love,
