A New Beginning

Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Apprentice troubles

          The six kits sat outside the nursery, Firekit and his siblings were finally six moons old. over the moons, the six kits had become close as ever. 

          Although sootkit was always more distant, they enjoyed playing outside together, 

           "So, what do you think will be the best part of being an apprentice?" Firekit asked. They all looked thoughtful. Sandkit replied first without hesitation.

            "Hunting definitely!" she meowed, "I'm going to be the best hunter Thunderclan has ever seen." Firekit smiled at her, he didn't doubt her sentence for one second. She smiled back and he turned to his siblings and friends once more.

          "I don't know," Rainkit replied. "I always wanted to be a queen so I don't really know," she admitted while looking at the ground. Sootkit sent her a weird look before replying, 

          "I wanna learn to fight!" Sunkit nodded, 

          "Yeah, I agree!" They all turned to look at Tinykit. We stared at her for a moment in silence before remembering that she's blind and repeating the question to her. She flicked her tail in annoyance and rolled her blue eyes, 

          "Well I'm obviously gonna be a medicine cat." Firekit shifted awkwardly, cursing himself for forgetting. Tinykit was always so able and followed them around without a problem, he often forgot she was blind. 

          "But I'm starting to look forward to it, I find Leafdrop's work quite cool!" Tinykit squeaked in excitement. Sootkit snorted.

          "I would never be a medicine cat," he stated, sticking his tongue out in disgust. Then turning to Firekit he asked, "What about you? What do you look forward to?" Firekit opened his mouth to reply but then realized he actually hadn't given it much thought. He closed his mouth again and shrugged.

         "I dunno," he replied softly. Sootkit frowned, 

          "How can you not know?" Rainkit slapped Sootkit with her fluffy tail.

          "Be nice!" she scolded. Firekit smirked at the gesture. She would make a good mother, that's for sure. Sootkit rolled his eyes and a heartbeat later Beechstar appeared from her den 

         "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather for a clan meeting." This was it, Firekit was finally being apprenticed.

          The ceremony went well. Sunpaw was being mentored by Sandpaw's father, Pineclaw. Tinypaw, obviously, was made a medicine cat apprentice for Leafdrop. He himself was paired with Jumpclaw, the clan deputy. 

           "Good luck," Sandkit smiled at Firepaw. The tom was headed out for the tour of Thunderclan with his brother, not that he really needed it. But being reborn meant going through the whole process again. He just found it interesting to be clanborn. 

         Firepaw turned to see his father, Redhawk, and his mentor, Jumpclaw, making their way towards them. Redhawk was smiling widely. 

          "Firepaw, I'm proud of you," he purred. His tail flicked happily as he spoke. Firepaw beamed and puffed out his chest at the priase. Jumpclaw, "come on Firepaw. It's time you see our territory." Jumpclaw streaked towards the entrance where Sunpaw and Pineclaw were waiting, Firepaw bounding behind him.

          Two moons later Firepaw watched as Sandkit, Rainkit, And Sootkit were apprenticed as well. Sandpaw was being mentored by Firekit's father, Redhawk. Sootpaw was being mentored by Ryenose and Rainpaw by Copperbee.
