Chapter Seven

Selene stretched and yawned as she rolled over the next morning. She instantly came into contact with a hard chest and body heat. Her eyes flew opened as memories from the night before filled her mind. Looking down at the arms wrapped around her waist and she was frozen in surprise as she looked at Zorro’s tanned muscular arms and the one tattoo that was just above his arm. It was a Chinese symbol. She had no clue what it meant, but she knew she had to leave. She had lowered her guard for him. She had spent the night over his house and slept in the same bed as him. She didn’t know for sure what to think about it. It had been peaceful and she had slept deeply, more deeply than she had in a long time.

Reaching down she wrapped one hand around one of his arms and tugged gently so that she wouldn’t wake him. She figured if she left before he woke up then there wouldn’t be awkwardness between them. There would be time for her to recover and bring herself flying back to her senses. She needed to get up and out before he woke up. Her vulnerability was still there. She had given into his pleas because she had thought it was cute of him and the sincerity in his voice. Well that had been logical reasoning but deep down inside she knew it was because she had been curious to feel the warmth of a man’s body next to hers as she slept. She had secretly wanted to feel his arms around even if it was just for that night.

She really liked him and his personality, yet there were other factors that kept running through her mind. She couldn’t help but wonder about Adrian. He had seemed so persistent yet he had just vanished into thin air leaving behind his dickhead of a brother Alessandro and his Aeneas. She was happy that he wasn’t bothering her but she still couldn’t help but wonder if something had happened to him. She brushed off the idea that he was harmed. If he had been harmed then his brothers wouldn’t be here right now. They’d be off somewhere mourning him or something.

As she moved away from him, she heard a loud yawn and looked back her eyes meeting his. She didn’t say anything as she continued to straighten her rumpled clothes. A smile stretched across his face and she looked at him without saying a word. He was proving to be a true gentleman to her and she liked it. However, she wasn’t up to making herself vulnerable to any man. Friends were what they would be for a long while. He made her feel comfortable and secure around him. There wasn’t an awkward moment and he didn’t make her feel pressured or put on pretenses. He let her simply be her.

“Morning, Selene,” he said watching her through half closed eyes.

“Morning,” she replied slipping on her heels.

“Where are you going so quickly?” he asked.

“Home,” she said. “I’ve got work in a few hours.”

He laughed. “More like close to twelve hours away. It’s only ten in them morning,” he said stretching.

The blanket slid down and her eyes fell to the bottom of the blanket which was directly at the stop of his shirt. His shirt was twisted around him tightly revealing the flatness of his stomach. She wondered if he had a pack.

“True,” she said chuckling, “but I’ve got things to do. I’m missing out on my morning run around the block.”

He chuckled.

She arched an eyebrow and shook her head. “Come on. You’re dropping me off at home,” she said watching him with amusement.

At any moment the alcohol he had the night before would be showing its ugly side effects. Hangovers weren’t pretty. She had a few of them within her life time. Walking out of his room she walked into the kitchen and opened the refrigerator door looking around. Spotting a bottle of orange juice and a variety of foods in the refrigerator she decided to make a quick breakfast and then leave for home. Taking out the eggs,  bacon, ham and cheese she called out, “Where is the rest of your food, Rafael?”
