To Fathers

Fatherhood is not for the weakhearted
For some it is as if they're being hunted
For others it is a milestone achieved
As for others, this is part of a tree leaved
Extension to a next generation.
It is a coin toss situation
Which can change at a flip,
Which landed on the good side for you.
You are the father figure fate fortuned and faahioned
Just for me.
You are the reminder of all that is good and true
And this once, I want you to know
That all the care you gave meant the world to me.
All the tears you wiped to help me see a better way
All the smiles you gave to turn my frown upside down
All the burdens you bore to give me a straight back...
I can never forget what you did for me.
Hopefully I can do the same for you one day,
Maybe in the same exact way
Maybe in the same exact pay
Maybe in the same exact yay
To bring sunshine's ray
To you.
Maybe today
Maybe tomorrow
For the great debt I owe
To you.

But for now I shall keep it simple
Maybe by putting in your smile a dimple...

By saying thank you.
For everything.
And I will always love you,
Fancy words or not.
