The One That Got Away

He promised we'd talk about it
We had a relationship that kept going back and forth.
I kept thinking he'd come back.
He'd always leave, but I'd always go in search of him.
After years of nothing forthcoming
After many screw-ups even for homecoming,
I should have seen the end.
I should have made it end.
It was pathetic really, should have realized
Long ago,
That he was the one that got away.
This is not a Katy Perry song
This is real life.

He had never been in love that way before.
Found himself doing everything for her.
Suicide was never an option.
She cheated and it killed him.
She was a lost cause,
Never worth the fight.
However, he thought he couldn't survive without her.
Took his life rather than be without her.
When he should have realized, long ago
She was
The one that got away.
This is not a Katy Perry song, it is real life.

She fought her bullies everyday
Because she believed in who she was.
They quoted her, called her hideous
Said her deformity made her the ugliest person in the world.
Today, she is a motivational speaker,
Travelling and giving new life to dead souls.
I guess they should have realized,
The internet can make
Or break
Or make and break you.
I guess they have realized now,
That she is the one that got away.
This is not a Katy Perry song, it is real life.

When she was vague
He couldn't eat, or sleep well.
She did him a favor
He loved her too much, but she never did.
It sucked when he realized it was one-ended
And he wrote a song about it.
He became famous,
Got millions of fans on every continent,
And two beautiful children with the most amazing woman he ever met.
I guess when she walked out
Because it didn't work out,
It gave him the chance to meet someone better
Who'd love him, unlike that hater.
I guess she realizes now,
With five divorces in her past, that
He was the man meant for her.
Too late.
He is
The one that got away.

Sometimes we think we love and need something so bad
Clutch at it even if we know it's bad for us.
It never helps to live in a past
Dim or bright...
To make a better future,
You have to take a huge leap of faith.
This may involve new and unfamiliar
But having the same old leaves even deeper wounds.
It is a good thing for the past to be the past.
It is the one that got away after all....
