Tsuki’s chakra strings wrapped around Kin’s neck, using her to knock Zaku back, the pair of them landing in a heap at Dosu’s feet. Sakura’s mind had been elsewhere and it had flowed into Tsuki’s without meaning to which caused her a bit of trouble. She had been about to avoid a punch but the shock made her stop and Kin’s fist hit Tsuki in chest. She thrust her fist into Kin’s jaw and knocked her back. The forehead protector started falling from Sakura’s head.
--- ‘I’d always considered myself a true Kunoichi, I claim that I’m madly in love with Sasuke-kun,’ an image of the boy appeared in Sakura’s mind, ‘And I’m always lecturing Naruto like I know so much more.’ Naruto appeared in her mind. ‘I get jealous of Tsuki, and talk down about her.’ The image of Tsuki appeared. ‘But it’s all empty words because they’re always in the lead and I watch them from the background. Why is that?’ ---
The headband passed her shoulders, strands of pink hair floating in the wind as Tsuki narrowed her strengthened eyes and wrapped her chakra strings around some of the kunai and shuriken on the ground, launching then at the other three, guarding Sakura and the boys.
--- Sakura remembered protecting Tazuna, at the very beginning of mission from the Rogue brothers, and Sasuke sweeping in to protect her, Tsuki dropping down as well, ‘We got it covered,’ Sasuke said to her, she remembered Naruto after he retrieved his head band from Zabuza, Kakashi in the water prison, and how he and Sasuke freed him. ‘No matter what, they were always there, those three, protecting me. And Lee-san, he did more than just saying he liked me, he proved it!’ She remembered him announcing to protect her till death, and how he actually did try. ‘We’re not even team mates and you put your life on the line for me, all this time you’ve all been teaching me something.’ ---
The shuriken and kunai were blown back by Zaku and Dosu charged but Tsuki used Katon: Gōkakyū no Jutsu. The three of them had to jump back and where they had been, a giant crater was left behind. She stumbled slightly and quickly cancelled Me no jutsu, realising it was using quite a lot of chakra.
--- Four shadows appeared in Sakura’s mind, the first to light up was the first shadow on the left, Naruto, and him saying in a sing-song voice ‘Sa-kura-chan!’ the next was Lee, the last shadow, ‘Sakura-san!’ he said in a serious tone. Then the one next to Naruto lit up, showing Tsuki, ‘Sakura!’ she screamed like just a minute ago but gave that warm smile she had on when she was with the team, and then Sasuke lit up, his face in a light smirk with his usual ‘Hn.’ ---
The head band finally hit the ground with a clink, a few strands of pink hair around it. Tsuki stumbled a few steps and grit her teeth against the pain in her back.
“Sakura-nee-san,” Tsuki offered her free hand.
“Tsuki . . .” Sakura let a few tears spill, looking at the blood on her teammate but took the hand and allowed herself to be pulled up.
“We protect our team together, ne?” she smiled, tilting her head on the side and lots of blood began to run from a gash in her cheek.
--- ‘It’s about time I learnt the lesson,’ Sakura thought. ‘Everyone, now it’s my turn to take the lead and all of you can watch me from the background!’ ---
“Hai, Tsuki-nee-san, together,” she said with determined eyes.
“Finish them!” Zaku yelled and Kin charged, Tsuki and Sakura had their backs turned. Sakura began doing the hand signs and when the Kunoichi crashed into her, Sakura became a log.
