Valerie's POV:

When I got into my car, I leaned my head back against the headrest, sighing in frustration. My mood was out of control today and I couldn't take it anymore. I ran my hands over my thighs as I tried to calm my nerves. 'Gah! What is wrong with me?!' I thought to myself. Oswald could clearly sense my frustration as he crawled up on my shoulder. I smiled, scratching his head as I closed my eyes and took a clarifying breath. When I felt calm enough to open my eyes and start to put my seat belt on, I noticed Lyndsey was finally leaving work. She had a smile plastered onto her face as she spoke to somebody on the phone. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I remembered why I was so bent out of shape for the whole day.

--Earlier this morning—

I awoke to a buzzing sensation close to my thigh. 'Shit, my phone!' was my first thought. I realized that there was an arm around my waist. I smiled, looking over my shoulder at the passed out Lyndsey, her brown hair splayed beautifully over her shoulders. I removed her arm from around my waist before grabbing my phone. I furrowed my brows and tried to rub the sleep from my eyes as I pressed the home button and noticed two messages from... Emalie? Then it dawned on me... This was Lyndsey's phone. I bit my lip as my eyes couldn't help but read the messages. I hadn't known Lyndsey very long... but, my feelings were going crazy for some reason. I looked over to see she was still asleep and sighed. I stood up and made my way over to her side of the bed as quietly as I could and placed her phone on her nightstand. I took one more look at her beautiful, sleeping form and decided not to wake her. I just couldn't bring myself to for some reason as a slight mixture of sadness and anger washed over me.

--End flashback—

I watched as Lyndsey drove out of the parking garage. I needed to stay away from her for a while. My feelings were out of control and being around her was confusing the hell out of me. So, I started my car and drove to the beach. Hoping to find a little bit of peace in this insane day.

The beach always calmed me down. It brought back happy memories of when my mom would take me when I was little. I frowned, remembering that she was gone now... I sighed, running a hand through my hair again as my other hand ran along Oswald's back; my feet digging into the soft sand. I had lost track of time when a voice shook me out my thoughts.

"Wow!" I opened my eyes to see a boy standing before me. "That's a ferret!" He smiled. I smiled back at him as I sat up. He didn't seem very old at all. "What's his name?"

"Oswald." I answered as I scratched his furry head. I looked over to the boy who looked utterly amused. "Do you want to pet him?" His eyes lit up instantly. I couldn't help but laugh along with his excitement.

"Oh! Can I?!" He nearly screamed, making Oswald's ears twitch. I nodded as I lifted Oswald off my lap and handed him over to the unknown boy. "Oh! He is so cute!" He smiled what seemed to be a toothless smile towards me.

"There you are!" A feminine voice broke out. The boy jumped out of his skin as we both turned towards the woman. I was taken aback as I looked at the girl. She was beautiful with light brown hair, wearing a very revealing bikini. She knelt down next to the boy as she pushed her sunglasses on top of her head. "I'm sorry, was my little brother annoying you?" I smiled, shaking my head.

"Not at all." I answered. She smiled as she scruffed up the boys hair.

"Look!" The blonde boy smiled up at his sister, holding Oswald proudly. Her brows rose with interest.

"Joel... What are you holding...?" She asked. He looked towards me with a toothless grin.

"It's her pet ferret!" He exclaimed. She gave me a quizzical glance.
