CHAPTER 40

"Expecto Patronum."

A wisp of silver came from Draco's wand, but wasn't enough to make a shield. Draco sighed as he was unable to produce a Patronus.

"What am I doing wrong?" Draco muttered, he turned to Jaime, who gave him a supporting smile.

"You just have to find the right memory – a happy memory, Draco." Jaime said.

Draco sighed again, "I thought that was enough."

Jaime breathed in then went to Draco, she took his hand and made him face her, Draco stared in to her eyes and just got lost.

"What'd you thought about, Draco?" Jaime asked, "What was the memory?"

Draco closed his eyes, "When my family and I... weren't sentenced to Azkaban..."

Jaime sighed, she ten wrapped her arms around Draco and pressed her ear on his chest, listening to his heart. Draco sighed and wrapped his arms around Jaime.

"What are you thinking, Draco, right now?"

"A lot of things..."

"Like what?"

Draco pursed his lips, "My parents... Hogwarts... NEWTs... You..." Draco brushed Jaime's hair with his fingers and pressed his lips to her hair, kissing hr gently, "Jaime... I don't want to drag you in to my mess... I don't want to ruin your life..."

Jaime lift her head and stared in to Draco's eyes, "Why? Why do think that if I'm with you, you'll ruin my life?"

"Jaime – people are still afraid of me... the still see me and my family as traitors – as Death Eaters – I don't want to drag in to my mess... things are already complicated in Hogwarts, but what about outside of Hogwarts? What about the people, what would they do?"

"I don't care." Jaime said.

"Jaime- "

Jaime cupped Draco's face with her hands and stared deep in to his eyes, "I don't care with what they think... I don't care with what they do – Draco... I won't let anyone interfere with us... I won't... I made a promise to myself that I won't let anyone hurt the people who are important to me – the people I love... and you're one of them, Draco..." Jaime pressed her forehead on Draco's and closed her eyes, "Close your eyes." Draco did what he was told and closed his eyes, "Now... think of nothing..." Draco breathed and emptied his mind, "Good, now think of a memory... a happy memory..."

Draco thought of a memory, he wasn't sure if it was enough.

"Do you have your memory?" Jaime asked.

Draco nodded. Jaime lets go of Draco and takes his hand that was holding his wand, and then points it to the open space in the Room of Requirement.

"Open your eyes..." Jaime whispered, "Now, do the incantation..."

Draco opened his eye and said the incantation, "Expecto Patronum!"

A silver wisp came from Draco's wand, it was forming a shield, but then it vanished. Draco sighed in defeat and sat on the floor.

"I am a Dark Wizard..." Draco muttered, "Maybe that's why I can't make a Patronus..."

"Draco." Jaime knelt down to Draco's side, "You're not a Dark Wizard – what'd you thought about earlier, your memory, what was it?"

"Me catching the Snitch."

Jaime sighed, "Draco, that's not strong enough – let's try again... but please, think something that's happy – really happy."

Draco nodded, he got up from the ground and got out his wand. Draco thought about a happy memory... but what? Most of his happy memories weren't strong enough, he never really felt happy with his friends – Crabbe and Goyle – nor was he happy with his relationship with Pansy, or even during Christmas in his home. Draco turned to Jaime, he saw her giving him a smile. A memory came to Draco.

"Expecto Patronum!"

It wasn't just a small wisp of silver that came from Draco's wand, but a endless fountain like wisp that came from the wand and was forming a shield, it didn't form a shield, but formed an animal, it was small, with a long body and was standing on both its arms and legs.

"I-I did it!" Draco exclaimed, "I-I created a Patronus!"

"What is it?" Jaime asked, excited to know what Draco's Patronus was. The small animal circled Draco and went to Jaime, it went to Jaime's shoulder and wrapped itself around her neck and caressed itself to her cheek. Draco studied the animal for a while, wanting to know what it was... it had a familiar shape... then he remembered during his fourth year... Draco frowned slightly. The Patronus disappeared.

"What's wrong? Why'd you lose your focus?" Jaime asked, concern written on her face.

"I know what it is." Draco muttered.

"What?" Jaime asked, eager to know.

Draco muttered the answer that Jaime wasn't able to catch what he said, so she asked again. Draco sighed, "It's a Ferret."

"A ferret?" Jaime stifled a laugh.

"Laugh all you want, Jaime." Draco rolled his eyes at Jaime. Jaime saw Draco's embarrassed look, she even saw him blushing. Jaime chuckled and walked to Draco, "You did it Draco." Jaime hugged Draco from behind, she tried to stop laughing but failed.

"Yeah, laugh." Draco sighed.

Jaime lets go of Draco and face him, "It's a bit cute... I always knew you were a ferret."

Draco sighed, "I think we had enough, I'm heading back to the dorms."

"Draco!" Jaime grab hold of Draco's sleeve, stopping him from leaving, "I'm sorry – please, don't leave."

Draco turned to Jaime and saw her pleading look, Draco sighed and took both of Jaime's hands and pulled her close to him.

"I hate you." Draco sighed.

"I love you." Jaime laughed.

Draco froze, Jaime said 'I love you' to him, he can't believe it, she said it. Jaime saw Draco's sudden shock that she tried to process what she said, realization hit her, she just said 'I love you'.

"Do you mean it?" Draco asked.

Jaime pulled closer to Draco, "Yes."

"Say it again, please."

Jaime smiled, "I love you, Draco."

Draco smiled, "I love you, Jaime."

Their faces hung close to each other, Draco's lips crushing against Jaime's, giving them both an electrical shock. "Close your eyes." Draco said. Jaime closed her eyes and waited. Jaime waited for a minute, but nothing happened, curious, Jaime opened her eyes, only to be shocked with what happened. Draco leaned forward and kissed her, Jaime felt Draco's soft lips on hers, kissing her with so much passion. Jaime closed her eyes and kissed back. The two teenagers felt in cloud nine, they didn't think of their of their surroundings – their focus was only with each other. Draco laced his arms around Jaime's waist, bringing her closer. Jaime smiled at his actions and held on to Draco and caressed his cheeks.
Draco and Jaime pulled away after a while, both panting for air. They both smiled at each other and just laughed.

Draco and Jaime walked to Gryffindor tower, Draco stood before Jaime with a smile, "Goodnight?" Draco asked.

"Goodnight." Jaime said. Draco nodded, then leaned forward and gave Jaime a kiss on the lips, which turned to a snog.
"
"Would you two stop?" the Fat Lady said, "It's already pass curfew and you both are still up – I still want to sleep and you both are taking my time."

Jaime and Draco broke their snog and laughed at the Fat Lady. Jaime turned back to Draco and gave him a light kiss, "Goodnight."

"Goodnight."

Jaime turned to the Fat Lady and said the password, "Pukwudkie."
The Fat Lady opened the way, Jaime stepped in and gave Draco one last wave goodnight, before she closed the painting.
