Matt's POV

I grabbed a hotdog and went to sit down at the pier. Tomorrow is the Homecoming Dance, but I really don't feel like going.

"Hey," I heard a soft voice behind me. I didn't turn, but I knew it was Katie. She sat down, took off her ballet flats, and dipped her feet in the water.

"How're you?" I asked her. She smiled and looked out into the sunset.

"I'm fine, I guess. Sammie told you, didn't she," Katie sighed.

"Yeah. And I think you should," I said, nodding my head.

"You think I should what?" she asked confused.

"I think you should go to the dance with Chris."

She looked up at me with her hazel eyes. "Too late. I'm not going." My jaw almost dropped.

"What do you mean, you're not going?!?!" I exclaimed in anger. She moved away, looking scared for a second, so I took her hands.

"Katie, you need to go," I whispered.

"No. You need to go. Alone. With Sammie. I know you guys are dating, and it doesn't seem right if I go along," Katie said.

"Yeah, but--"

"Please. Don't worry about me, I'll be watching Titanic and eating candy the whole time," she smiled.

"Are you sure?"

"Positive." Then Katie hugged me, and she left the pier.
