The fighting stopped and all eyes turned to Loki. Laila and Thor simultaneously screamed Loki’s name. Laufey smiled to himself before addressing the crowd below, especially the two Asgardians.

“Did I not tell you princess?” Laufey teased, knowing what he was about to say would hurt her more than Thor. Laila growled under her breath

“Tell me what?” She said, anger evident in her voice. Laufey grinned mischievously. A grin, Laila noted, that looked exactly the same as Loki’s.

“Due to the ingredients in the Ianite, that we’ve been feeding Loki here, I have been given a tremendous power. You see, I can now control how Loki feels, what Loki likes and dislikes, his opinions, who he loves, who he hates. He is under my complete control and nobody can stop me. Loki will never be free from me. Not for as long as he or I live” Laufey spoke proudly. Laila prepared to lunge at Laufy when Thor stopped her

“Laila you can’t!” He whispered hurriedly. “If you hurt or kill Laufey you could risk doing the same to Loki. Their minds are connected. Damaging the link can have horrific consequences.” Thor warned. Laila reluctantly brought her weapon down and instead went back to Loki’s side. She persuaded him to fight it.

“Come on Loki, you are not giving up now! We’re almost there! We’re almost home! Fight it! Fight him!” she encouraged him. Loki tried but he could feel Laufey’s power engulfing his own.

“Laila...I...can’t!” He forced out before another cry escaped his lips. Laila hugged him tightly

“Yes you can. I know you can. Try!” She persisted. Loki shook his head

“Laila you have to go. Now. I can feel him changing me. I don’t want to hurt you again! Go!” Loki pleaded. Laila ignore his plea

“Loki I’m staying here. I’m not leaving you again. I came here for you and I’m not leaving without you.” She argued. She could tell that Loki was now wrestling with his conscience. Screams of determination gushed from Loki. His mind felt like it was going to explode. Surprisingly, after a few minutes of fighting him, he soon felt Laufey’s power retreating. He was gone but for how long? Picking himself up off the floor he looked at Laila in astonishment

“He’s gone. He’s gone.” He said with relief. Laila helped Loki up before kissing him. Loki relaxed and felt all his troubles disappear as he focussed on her and the kiss. However it wasn’t long before the feeling of dread began to overcome his mind once again. Suddenly Laila gasped. Loki broke away from the kiss and tried to warn what was happening. Laila’s eyes were distant and she didn’t seem to be responding. All of a sudden Laila began to fall backwards. Loki caught her just before she hit the cobblestone floor. He frowned in confusion. What was going on? He could sense something was wrong, he just didn’t know what. Thor rushed to Loki’s aid.

“Loki! We have to get her out of here!” He bellowed, trying to get a hold of Laila. Loki couldn’t understand why

“What’s happened? Why has she fallen? Why is she-” He stopped suddenly when he noticed the wound upon Laila’s hip on her left side. With a shaky hand he touched the wound gently before examining his hand again. There was a lot of blood. Loki began to panic “Thor how did she get like this? How did this happen?!” He begged for answers. Thor glanced at his brother before bowing his head. He did not have the heart to tell him. Instead he instructed him

“Look at your right arm Loki.” Thor said sullenly. Loki did as he was told and gazed upon his right arm. The vision that he was faced with almost made him throw up. Shining back at him was a razor-sharp sword made of ice. It wasn’t like any other weapon that he had created before. It was more deadly; the weapon of a true monster. Loki glanced at the tip of the blade and realised that his worst fears were true. Laila’s blood glistened the blade right from the tip until about half way down. Loki stared at the sword in disbelief. He had done it. He remembered his nightmare. It was all happening before his eyes! Loki looked up from the sword to his brother.

“Thor I never meant to do this! I was being controlled! It wasn’t me! I-. We have to help her! We have to get her to safety. I am not going to lose her again.” Loki reasoned. Laufey’s coarse laughter could be heard from the height of the palace.

“How does it feel Loki? How does it feel to have the blood of your fiancé drying on your sword? How does it feel to know that you killed her? Her own lover; betraying her when she needed him most. You are no longer one of them. You’re a monster, just like the rest of us.” He scorned. Loki clenched his fists. He could feel the anger building up inside of him like lava in a volcano. With a scream of fury Loki threw one of his daggers towards his real father. The blade hit Laufey square in the shoulder. A cry of pain came from the frost giant king as he collapsed to the floor. Thor realised it was time that they left

“Loki! Loki! We have to go! Now!” Thor ordered. Loki was about to follow Thor when he looked, again, at his arm. Then, without a second thought he smashed his arm against a nearby pillar, destroying his arm completely. Loki winced as his arm shattered into tiny pieces. There was no way he was going to keep the weapon that had just taken everything from him. Loki turned and picked up Laila in his arms. She was light and he was able to run easily. Thor slammed his hammer down on the courtyard which was followed by another stretch of lightening. A ripple spread across the palace ground as the floor began to cave in on itself. The brothers began to sprint back to the place where the Bifrost could detect them. They weren’t alone. The army of giants was close behind. Loki spoke encouraging words to Laila as they made their way to the Bifrost.

“Stay with me Laila. You’re going to make it. Don’t give up on me now.” He begged desperately. Thor shouted out to Heimdall to open the Bifrost.

“Heimdall! Heimdall if you can hear me, open the Bifrost!” He bellowed. Within seconds a bright trail of golden light shot down from the sky and engulfed the trio. A few seconds past as the Bifrost twirled and intensified around them. Then, as quickly as it had come, the Bifrost tunnel vanished, taken the three Asgardians with it.

Another chapter done! Sorry this is quite a short one. Quick question, I know I haven't finished this one yet but what do you guys think to a sequel? Not sure of the plot but I had great fun writing this so I Just wondered what you guys thought to a BITB 2 (essentially) Let me know either way.

Dedicated to @Ila185 who managed to guess correctly what was happening to Loki. Well done! XD
