Pantoum: Black Widow
©2012, Olan L. Smith
Her breath breathes a profound rhythm―
Her heart beats black and bloody―
Her soul's terror fills night with venom,
Emptiness' cup flows o'er its brim, beastly―
Her heart beats black and bloody―
Her lips ooze savory poison, stealthy steel entwines―
Emptiness' cup flows o'er its brim, beastly―
Her protein spun web, tensile strengthened death lines―
Her lips ooze savory poison, stealthy steel entwines,
"Come hither my lover, fertilize my progeny my beloved"
Her protein spun web, tensile strengthened death lines―
Her eyes trained upon her goal, truly he is not unloved.
"Come hither my lover, fertilize my progeny my beloved."
Tentatively the tiny male approaches aware he must reply―
Her eyes trained upon her goal, truly he is not unloved.
Carefully, he approaches; her song is not denied―
He must consummate this, his final deed―
Her soul's terror fills night with venom―
His essences and flesh is now her feed―
Her breath breathes a profound rhythm.
