I was currently with Steve at the store.
Slade had dropped him off at my house, because he had to help his father out with something.
As a favor I offered to take care of Steve for a few hours.
"Take anything you like" I say.
His eyes light up and his expressions show amazement as his eyes roam around at the variety of snacks and drinks.
I chuckle.
He grabs a bag of ruffles(cheddar cheese), an apple juice, and some chocolate chip cookies.
"Ruffles are your favorite?" I ask.
He nods.
"Mine too" I state.
"Sometimes Slade buys me them when he gets out of school" he explains.
"Slade takes good care of you right?" I ask.
He nods.
"Yes, he's like a dad to me" he explains.
"What about your father?" I ask.
He looks around the store as we walk on line.
Ignoring my question.
"Steve" I laugh pushing my glasses up to my face with my middle finger.
"Yeah?" he says.
"I asked you a question sweetheart" I state.
"I'm sorry" he apologies tipping toeing to try to place the snacks on the counter.
I help him out.
"For what?" I ask paying for the snacks.
He motions for me to bend down.
Grabbing the bag from the counter and thanking the worker behind it I bend down.
"Slade says I can't talk about daddy to anyone" he whispers in my ear.
Curiosity begins to fill up inside me.
However I just nod understanding.
Slade has his reasons to tell Steve what he tells him.
I have no right to invade.
Holding onto his hand we make our way out the store and towards my house.

"I like you Grace, you're nice to me" Steve replies munching on his ruffles.
"Why thank you" I reply with a smile.
"Yeah. Most of the girls Slade is around give me nasty looks and call me names" he informs.
"How terrible" I comment.
He nods agreeing.
"Yeah, and especially the last one he was with. I think her name is Va-vanessa yeah that's her name" he adds.
My insides get bothered as I hear her name.
Vanessa Cruz.
She was Slade's girlfriend, who cheated on him with Matthew Davis!
Wow, shocker.
I can't believe someone would cheat on Slade.
Despite his history, which I'm crazy curious to talk to him about, but I'm holding back for a while, he's a nice guy.
With an actual heart.
Who doesn't judge or choses others according to their appearance.
Which I'm glad.
