"Thank you so much, I honestly don't know what I would do without you" I confess hopping off his bike.

"It's a relief you won't have to" he states with a wink.

"Bye Johnson" I wave.

"Bye Evans" he chuckles.

I don't even wait for him to leave, it's 3:58!

Clutching my book bag I rush towards the front door of my house.

Turning the door knob desperately I begin to panic.

"Why won't this thing open?!" I question out loud forcing my grip on the knob.

"Ugh!" I groan punching the door a few times angrily.

And people say you're smart!

Try a key genius!

I sigh with my eyes closed.

"Idiot" I mutter to myself letting go of the knob.

After two minutes of searching for my keys inside my bag I manage to open the door.

"Mom!" I shout.

"Hey honey!" she greets coming down the stairs.

"I'm having someone over" I state throwing my bag at the couch.

"Yay! Visitors!" she cheers.

I run upstairs to get the rest of my books and laptop.

"No! It is not yay" I protest.

"It's not?" she questions puzzled.

"No! Of course not!" I squeal running back down placing the books and laptop.

"Why not?" she asks.

"Because this is Vanessa Cruz we're talking about!" I state.

"Oh" she replies.

Silence.

"Who's Vanessa Cruz?" she asks.

I let out a frustrated groan.

"No one important really! Just one of my biggest...." I stop mid sentence.

She doesn't know who Vanessa is.

She doesn't know Vanessa bullies me.

Or hates me, or sees me as an enemy.

She doesn't know anything.

She thinks my life is unicorns and rainbows at school.

"Uh...she's...you know what forget it" I try to dismiss the topic.

"Grace who is she?" she questions seriously.

"My partner for a really important Global Project report thing" I state.

"So why is it a big deal?" my mother continues to ask questions.

"It's....not. Let's just say she isn't the best person you'd like for a partner" I try to reason.

"She doesn't do any of the work?" she asks.

No she despises me.

"Something like that" I nod avoiding eye contact.

She gives me a worried look.

"Just do me a favor and stay out of sight. She can be a little judgmental and I don't want you to be affected by any of that. Your smile is just beautiful to be put to risk like" I add.

"Honey is she that bad? You don't have to face her alone" she informs.

I'm not going to face her.
