Those words, they've been replaying in my head all day. "You don't want anything in return?". I felt my chest ache when I met with Bustrov all those weeks ago but when she whispered that question? My chest cracked open, spilling whatever remained inside it. This angel was stealing my heart and didn't even know it. My phone buzzes and lights up with Juliette's face on the screensaver. My angel, whoever hurt you, I vow to find them and dispose of them from this earth. They would never dare to be in your presence again. I can't wait to see her tonight. She'll be working until nine and I should be home by then. I'll of course have to stop by my place to grab some things.
"Mr. Van Doren, what can I help you with?" Lorena at the front desk asks me.
"Hey Lorena, I'm need of a pair of heels, size 7. Something black perhaps?"
I notice the expression on Lorena's face. I never shop in person, especially for a pair of heels.
"Ah yes, sir. We have a pair of Christian Louboutins? Their classic black stilettos? Or there are the Prada patent leather Pumps? What are we matching the shoes with?"
"A black dress. It's fitted and about ankle length." I already picked a dress out for my angel to wear tonight.
"I have a pair of Gucci strappy Sandals but if we're doing something fitted and ankle length, stiletto's will work best."
"Perfect Lorena, I'll take the Christian Louboutins and Prada pumps in size 7."
"Y-yes sir. Of course."
Juliette and I may not get to showcase our relationship often, but I don't want to hide her anymore. Tonight is a risky move seeing as the wedding takes place in about 3 weeks. Bustrova ruined my morning by sending me a detailed email of the venue and plans regarding my marriage to Vivian. I only smashed my monitor.
"Thanks, lorena."
I walk out of the store and Bellamy's stride matches along mine to my right.
"I hope she's worth it, Alexander. You have a lot of lives in your hands. "
There's no doubt word of me shopping in a women's shoe store has gotten around already. For all they know, I could be buying shoes for Vivian though. But that thought causes a clenching feeling to my chest because I want them to know they're not for Vivian. They're for Juliette.
I unlock the 3 locks to Juliette's apartment and set the box containing her dress and heels on her bed. Nothing she owns is bought from an actual store. I can tell she likes to shop at consignment shops and I hate that for my angel. No, she deserves to shine in luxurious silk. I sit on the edge of her bed and read through my emails when my phone rings.
"I didn't want to be disturbed tonight."
"I have an update on Elena Bonetti. Blood type was O-, De Grasso's was O- as well. Juliette's is O-."
"There's no way."
"It's possible, Alexander. We're looking at all of the proof. De Grasso could have kept her a secret."
The pounding in my head gets worse. I only thought it was a possibility at first but now we have enough proof. What more did I need? Caramel eyes. I never met Matteo deGrasso but he was known for having the lightest pair of brown eyes. Caramel, just like my angels.
"Speak of this to no one." I say quietly when I hear Juliette unlock the front door. My heart is still pounding when she walks into her room. She stands in her doorway and I stare at her eyes. Does she know? Does she know her father was the boss of Boston? She never offers to talk about her parents. She senses my apprehension and I immediately regret trying to read through her.
"Hey, baby"
"What's all this?"
"We're going on a date."
"We've already been on one."
"I know, but I want to take you again."
I get excited just thinking about what I have in store for tonight. I stopped by a lingerie store on the way home. I want Juliette to wear a set of Lingerie only my eyes have seen.
