Alone For Once

"If I had free will in the band, we would be doing something more indie I think. I love rock and metal don't get me wrong, but I feel closer to indie. Oh! and we would at least have a song in French" Clémence explained after Jan had asked her what she would like to do in the future with her band. 

The little group was sitting around a wooden table in a park in Liverpool, taking a break after their tour of the city by bus. 

"Then why don't you do it?" wondered Bojan, not really understanding her point.

"Because I'm not the singer nor I am a frontwoman. I'm just the drummer" she raised her shoulders like her answer was obvious. 

"But I mean... You are three sisters in the band, I thought you would get the decisions all together" he told her. The rest of the band grew more and more interested in the conversation happening around the table.

"I'm the youngest so I don't really have a say in anything" she replied like it was the most obvious thing ever. The bandmates around shared a knowing look. 

"I saw that you don't seem to spend lots of time with them" mentioned Kris.

Clem thought about what to reply for a couple of seconds while everyone was staring at her. "Let's say that my sisters like to make me feel like I'm replaceable"

"What ?" the five guys reacted at the same time. 

"Well... Flo and Gab agree on almost everything while a lot of times I don't really. It's always them against me but I'm alone, and the youngest, and not a frontwoman. So I usually get some remarks like 'you're behind your drums so you don't have a say to this' or 'we're two against one so our point stands' instead of listening to what I have to say" she sighed, "But it's fine, I'm used to it" she sadly smiled at the band. 

"Yeah, but that's not normal! You should have a say in everything! You're a part of the band as much as they are" added Nace, "I was the last to join this band and yet I have a say in everything! Being in a band is teamwork"

"Don't tell me that! I know it! But my sisters seem to have forgotten about it" she lowered her head. "It has been like that since the beginning so I'm used to it... it's fine" 

The guys understood the French girl didn't want to continue this conversation. But they were confused. How could Clem be fine with all of this and keep up with it for so long ? She was a brilliant musician and a very creative person, she could definitely start a solo career yet she was staying in a band that disregarded her constantly. She deserved way better than that. 

In the meantime, Clem looked at her friends spending so much time together, exploring and having fun as a band but more importantly as friends. They could just do whatever they wanted but they always decided to do things together. 

She was somewhat jealous. They were friends that became a band to turn into a family meanwhile Flo, Gab and herself were a family that became a band only for the youngest to turn like a third wheel. Why can't I have what they have ?
