The last 3 months had passed faster than you expected them to. You caught some side hustles to pick up some quick cash every now and then but you hadn't been called about your transfer since you left. Javier's memory would slowly come in and out of your thoughts. Everything you did reminded you of him in some way. When you would pass a liquor shop, the smell of the whiskey coming from the barrels that would be stacked against the wall. When you would shower with josh and the smell of his soap reminded you of the way Javier's head would crash down on your shoulders and his arms would hold you under the warm water that would hit your body. Sometimes, josh would cook you his mothers recipes when you had felt sick. It reminded you of Javier, it hurt deeply. You cared about josh, you both moved fast. But you felt attached to him, he was keeping you distracted from your true feelings.

You bent down to unpack the last box from the small bed set which was filled with extra screws. "Thank you for helping me set up josh. I really appreciate it." He looked up from the floor and placed the screw driver next to him, "of course hermosa, anything for you." He grabbed the leg of the bed and shook it hard, testing its durability. "Looks good. Wanna try it out?" He smirked at you, you gave him a warm smile and scooted towards him. "Maybe not tonight, I'm tired and I still want to unpack some other things." He nodded his head and gave you the same smile you showed him. You stood up and walked down the stairs right adjacent to the left. You had upgraded from an apartment to a loft. It was small, but it was right on the beach so it made up for its limited space. The upstairs was fairly large, with a new bed pushed against the back wall with three long rectangular windows stretching from the floor to the ceiling gave you a clear view of the waves crashing against the white sand on the beach. And a killer sun set, tonight the sky was a deep blue and the winds where mixing together with the humid salty air. A storm was brewing, but the soft candle light around the upstairs was a comforting thought. Next to your bed was a small night stand with a little lamp and a glass of water that sat on top of it. Across, was a medium sized dresser with a large mirror that hung above on the wall. On the dresser was a mix of unpacked boxes, instruction labels and books, a few pictures, and a jewelry box made from aged mahogany wood. The stairs where elongated into a spiral with a thin railing that extends to the sides. Down stairs was a large couch with the same windows extending to the floor. Large house plants in ceramic pots lined the windows taking in the deep blue hue of the sky. The kitchen was small, the stove worked and the washing machine was busted, but it would soon be fixed because josh knew a guy who worked on every appliance you could possibly think of, you name it. The couch was a cream color that underneath it was a large red Persian rug that attached across the entire floor. A coffee table sat in the middle of the living room. Shelf's decorated the walls, some where empty, others had a combination of Nik naks or empty picture frames. Tall skinny doors where tucked away by the front door, a small bathroom with a half way broken sink, behind the other door was a washer and dryer. It was little, slightly cramped but it was welcoming. Outside was a deck that had a few lawn chairs and a ripped umbrella that down to a long path down to the beach that you saw far from you. The loft was sat up farther on the bank on the sand dunes.

"Is there anything I can get you before I leave?" Josh happily walked down the spiral staircase to meet you on the couch. You stood up, "no I'm ok, thank you so much." You placed a kiss on his cheek. He smiled and excused him self to leave. Once he shut the door you moved some of the boxes to the kitchen and stacked them on top of the small kitchen counter. When you finished you wiped down the windows with some water and vinegar. Finally, you plopped back down onto the couch and looked for the boxy remote for the TV. The static from the TV filled the corners of the room, probably from bad weather. You got sick of messing with the remote and buttons on the TV so you ended up turning it off manually. You walked back down to the couch and sat with your head in your hands. You heard the scream of the phone across the room. You jolted and let out a sigh, you walked up the staircase to the upstairs to your dresser which cradled the pale yellow phone. You picked it up and held it to your ear, you figured it was josh calling you and making sure he got home safe. "Hello?" There was silence for a moment. "How are you doing?" Your eyes widened. You could feel your jaw dangle from your mouth. A familiar voice filled your mind. A mix of "ums" and "uhs" came from your mouth. "W-who is this?" You searched for something to lean against. "Javier." You took a deep breath in. "Hi. Uh. How are you?" You heard a flick of a lighter though the phone. "Living" you let out a hum, "How's Miami." You sighed, "uh, it's been good. I got a loft by the beach. I miss you." You heard a loud sigh. "Have you been working yet?" You sat down on the floor. "No, not yet. I've done some small things but the transfer won't go in until this week. When are you coming back.", "dunno. Things are rough down their. I'm coming back to the states." Your eyes widened. "What? How??" Silence, "I got caught with Cali. They're sending me back to the embassy in Miami. I fly out tomorrow." You where confused, happy? Angry. "I'm just still trying to figure out why you haven't called me for almost the past 3 months? I thought you where dead Javier, Jesus Christ." Your voice picked up. "I've gotta go." You heard the line go dead. You kept yelling into the phone but you where met with the same disappointment of silence. You banged the phone against the floor a few times and then left it. You curled into a ball and tucked your head to your knees. You let out a long groan and stood up, you grabbed a towel from the drawer in your dresser and walked down stairs to the crammed bathroom to shower. Your bathroom was much smaller than the one back in your old apartment. Although It did work better, you shimmied your way into the rectangular shape of the room and bent down to flip the knob of the shower on letting the hot water gush out of the steel shower head. The heat rose, you placed your towel on the wide sink counter and began to undress your self. You pushed the shower curtain open and stepped in, you jumped at the temperature so you Quickly turned it down. The water pressure was a lot higher than the one in your apartment was, it beat down on your head and back. Something about it was nice, when it hit your back at the right temperature it felt like a massage on your tender skin. But the water was either super hot, or super cold- no in between. When you rinsed the last of the soap from your hair you moved onto washing your body. The loofa grazed across the curves on your body, covering them with a thick layer of soap. Javier had called you not even 15 minutes before, he was coming back? Was he going to be arrested? Was he going to see you? The thought of Javier danced across your mind, in a joyous and anger filled waltz. He was just doing his job, he didn't force you to get out you did that your self. Although, he just cares about you. Your hand caressed your body, gently tracing the outline of your breasts from under the soapy surface. He would want you to be safe, when he comes back every thing is going to be normal. Your other hand moved down your slick torso. He had missed you so much, he probably kept him self away from the hookers that would bang on his door. He waited for your touch. You realized the water was getting colder and colder. Your body had jolted at the dropping temperatures. You did a quick spin getting the soap off your body and you turned off the water. Your hair hung in your face, you opened the shower curtain and reached for the towel that sat tightly between empty box's. You reached for it and quickly pulled it off the counter and wrapped it around your cold body. You dried off and grabbed your clothes off the floor and walked out of the crammed room. You walked through your living room and walked up the staircase to your "bedroom" you turned on a small lamp that sat in your nightstand and looked out at the deep blue horizon. The moon was just nearly coming out, light rain pitter pattered against the tall windows. You put your hair up in the towel and changed into a short satin night gown. You had went back down stairs to grab a snack, then realized you had to brush your teeth so you did that and put the little Debbie's nutter butters back in their box. You took your hair out of the towel that sat on your head and you draped it over the ledge of the top of your "bedroom" you tied your hair back and crawled into your bed and turned off the lamp. The room filled with darkness. You rolled over and looked out the window at the angry sea.
